Deepika to sport royal style in 'Bajirao Mastani': Anju Modi

Designer Anju Modi, who is working on the costumes for Sanjay Leela Bhansali's “Bajirao Mastani”, says actress Deepika Padukone will sport a “royal style” in the film. "Deepika will be seen dressed in royal style, plus she is playing a Muslim character in the film, so we have tried to give her sharara and kurtis,” the designer said at the Aza Store here. Giving insights into the film's costumes, Anju said: "'Bajirao Mastani' is a period movie... So, we have kept old Mughal style Angarkha and Maharasthrian style Navwari saris as it's a story about the Maratha Peshwas." The ace designer is a founding member of the Fashion Design Council of India (FDCI), and made her Bollywood debut with Bhansali's “Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela” where she took ethnic designs to a different level altogether. "Bajirao Mastani" is based on the love story between 18th century Maratha warrior Peshwa Bajirao I (Ranveer Singh) and his second wife Mastani (Deepika). Priyanka plays Kashibai, the first wife of Peshwa Bajirao.

Katrina steps down as IPL Royal Challengers brand ambassador

Actress Katrina Kaif has stepped down as the brand ambassador of Indian Premier League team Royal Challengers Bangalore because she feels she will not be able to do justice to her responsibilities towards the team due to the clashing of her shooting schedule with IPL-4 matches. The Bangalore IPL team had extended her appointment as the brand ambassador for seasons three and four, but she is unable to continue as she would be shooting for Yash Raj Film's "Mere Brother Ki Dulhan" during IPL-4 beginning April 8. The film's shooting is in Agra and, therefore, it won't be possible for her to make appearances to support the team and hence the decision to step down as brand ambassador, a press statement said. "Katrina Kaif is a thorough professional and believes in giving her 100 percent to all her commitments. She is an avid sport's enthusiast and wanted to be present for all of the team's matches to cheer them on," said a source. "However, since she will be shooting during IPL-4, she has decided to opt out of the Royal Challengers since she wouldn't be doing justice to them," the source added. "Mere Brother Ki Dulhan" is Ali Abbas Zafar's directorial debut and Katrina has teamed up with actor Imran Khan and Pakistani singer-actor Ali Zafar in the movie. "Mere Brother Ki Dulhan" is scheduled to release worldwide in July. We understand you Katrina but we still got one solid player in the form of Ms. Deepika Padukone.

Priyanka Chopra crowned Hollywood's New Royal

It is now official! Desi girl Priyanka Chopra has been crowned as Hollywood's 'New Royals', by W Magazine. According to the publication, today, royalty is not a birthright but it is achieved. Through creativity, greatness, and originality, one can — especially if one goes about one's business with a certain sense of flair — be crowned a Royal. And there is no doubt that our very own Priyanka fits the bill. The actress, who is in the US shooting for the second season of her television drama 'Quantico', is the only Indian star to achieve this feat. Priyanka stands proudly among stars like Halle Berry, Chris Evans, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Kanye West, Kit Harrington and Jodie Foster to share this 'New Royals' title. Expressing her views on the team 'Royalty', Priyanka says, "Royalty is not something you are born into, that you are. It is a certain quality that when you walk into a room and people look. Or they just need to turn. And that is when you're really blue-blooded." In a screen test video, the actress talks about winning her Miss World title, being bullied while schooling in America, her 'appreciation' for Hollywood heartthrob Tom Hardy, her dreams of becoming an aeronautical engineer with NASA and the women she admires. "I love strong, tough women, women who live on their own terms, women like Jennifer Lawrence, I adore her; Rihanna, just coz she's so 'don't give a sh*t', I love her, I love that about her," she later added. Now that Priyanka Chopra has conquered international shores, we have only one thing to say, "Long may she reign."

Casino Royale, most disappointing Bond film ever

The newest edition of 007 movies, CASINO ROYALE, has turned out to be one of the most disappointing Bond flicks ever. The film was premiered yesterday at Delhi and it was shocking to witness the slow pace sans any chills and thrills in this 'Birth-of-Bond' movie. There are just about 3-4 notable scenes in the film and that includes a couple of excellently orchestrated action sequences in the first 45 minutes of the film, followed by a scene or two at the casino table. Apart from this, the film tries to rely heavily on emotional moments, hence trying to show the softer side of James Bond. But in an attempt to do so, it deviates from the vintage Bond following that it has cultivated over the decades. Things slow down considerably in the pre-climax and the story seems to be moving towards an abrupt end. Though the climax gets your attention back in for a couple of minutes, it doesn't really come with a kind of shock value. In fact, one has now got used to such twists in numerous Hollywood/Bollywood films over the last few years. A below average climax action sequence which follows, only adds on to the boredom further. Also missing is the tongue-in-cheek humour which is normally associated with every Bond movie. Here the witty dialogues are few and far-between and there is hardly a chance for Bond to showcase his naughty side. Daniel Craig is fine as an actor but comparisons with Sean Connery and even Pierce Brosnan are inevitable. Craig does well but the loyal followers of Connery and Brosnan would be ready with their daggers out, once the film is screened across the world.
