Actor Saqib Saleem says his role of a cricketer in upcoming action entertainer "Dishoom" is in a way inspired by Indian cricketer Virat Kohli. "I play a character that is inspired by Virat (Kohli) you can say. Rohit Dhawan is the director and it's got a very interesting ensemble with Varun Dhawan, John Abraham, Jacqueline Fernandez, Akshaye Khanna and me," Saqib said at the unveiling of designer Varun Bahl's collection of rugs. "I'm really looking forward to it. I've shot for some bits of the film, but I start shooting for it again in end of December," added Saqib, who can be seen showcasing his cricketing skills as a member of Sohail Khan's team Mumbai Heroes in the Celebrity Cricket League. The first look of the film with Varun and John in an intense action still was unveiled earlier this week. Apart from "Dishoom", Saqib will also be seen in Hindi remake of Hollywood film "Oculus" in which he stars alongside his sister Huma Qureshi. Talking about the film, he said: "It is an interesting experience, we stay together, eat together, discuss films and now are acting together as well. As much as 90 percent of the film is complete. We will shoot for the remaining 10 percent around January to February. We're looking at an April-May release."
Saqib Saleem gifts himself a labrador
Saqib Saleem brought home a three-year-old labrador retriever named Streak this Eid. He says his "entire family is really thrilled at his arrival". The brother of actress Huma Qureshi is extremely fond of dogs. He has adopted the dog from a friend. "They say that a dog is a man's best friend and Streak is already on his way to becoming mine… We are getting to know and understand each other," Saqib said in a statement. He added: "Not just me but my entire family is really thrilled at his arrival, we are all already competing for his attention." On the professional front, the 28-year-old actor will be seen playing a cricketer in the upcoming film 'Dishoom'.
Javed Sahab Ka Javaab Nahin, says Alka Yagnik
'Javed Sahab Ka Koi Javaab Hi Nahin hai,' says Alka Yagnik as she gets all excited about the release of JP Dutta's 'Umrao Jaan'. 'I don't think any other lyrics writer could have done justice to the music of this film. His words are simple but still effective. I think the combination of Anu Malika and Javed Akhtar was ideal for the film,' she added. Alka Yagnik is undoubtedly the most talented singers the film industry has today. And her voice in the semi classical compositions of Anu Malik is truly sounding outstanding. In fact her voice is giving a greater life to the songs. Aishwarya Rai has repeatedly been thanking Alka for being her voice in the film. When asked if she kept in mind the actress in mind while singing, the singer replied, 'Aishwarya is divine. Dada Saheb Phalke Award for Tapan Sinha
Tapan Sinha, one of the most accomplished film makers of India and winner of 19 National Film Awards has been selected for the Dada Sahed Phalke Award for the year 2006. Known for making films that are very true to real life and which portrays the genuine problems and harsh difficulties of the common man, the veteran film maker was chosen for the award in recognition for his long period of contribution to Indian cinema. The movie maker born on October 2, 1924 was decided as the most deserving person to get the award by stalwarts of films and art like A.Nagshwar Rao, Sharmila Tagore, Shyam benegal, Gautham Ghosh and the legendry flute player Hari Prasad Chaurasia. Tapan Sinha's interest in films started when he was doing his Masters in Physics at the Calcutta University during 1943-46. This new love for cinema was due to watching the films of masters like John Ford, Billy Wilder, Carol Reed and Frank Capra. The addictiveness for movies led him to take up a job as trainee sound engineer in New Theatres Studios in Calcutta in 1946. After working there for some time, he shifted to Calcutta Movietone Sturios. In 1950, he got a chance to work at the Pinewood Studios in London. He immediately went to London and began to work with director Charles Creighton. The period of two years that Tapan Sinha lived and worked in London made him more determined to come back to India and try his hand in directing films. After returning from Britain in the 1950's to India, Tapan Sinha decided to concentrate only in making movies. The veteran made his debut with the film 'Ankush' in 1954. Although this movie which was based on a novel called "Sainik" by Narayan Ganguly turned out to be a flop, it gave him a chance to get started and make his next film called as 'Upahar' in 1955. The film 'Kabuliwala' which was based on a novel having the same name written by Rabindranath Tagore came out in 1956. This film is still considered as one of his best works and also as one that established him as a talented film maker to watch out for. 'Kabuliwala' was screened at the Berlin Film Festival of 1957 and bagged an award for its music score. He went on to make two more movies called 'Khudito Pashan' and 'Athithi' based on Rabindranath Tagore's works. Tapan Sinha is also known as an expert and perfectionist in adapting classic literature into top class movies. Some of the other famous Bengali writers whose works this film maker has transformed into films are Samaresh Bose, Banaphool, Jarasandha, and Tarashankar Bandopadhyaya. The famous Hindi film 'Bawarchi' directed by Hrishikesh Mukherjee in 1972 was a remake of 'Galpo Holeo Satyi' which is the film that was made by Tapan Sinha in 1966 and one which showed his mastery on making a comic fantasy. The film 'Ek Doctor Ki Maut' having Pankaj Kapoor and Shabana Azmi in the lead roles came out in 1991. It won the National Award for the second best feature film and gave its maker the best director award too. He followed up with the movie 'Wheel Chair' in 1994. The year 2001 saw the coming out of one of the most ambitious projects of the veteran in the form of a six part film based on the stories of famous writers like Rabindranath Tagore, Gourkishor Ghosh, Prafulla Roy, Sarat Chandra Shattopadhyaya and Dibyendu Palit. The movie titled as 'Shtabdir Kanya' which means Daughters of this century was a work that showcased the exploitation, abuse, and neglect Indian women have faced all along the 20th century. Tapan Sinha's films have won several awards in International film festivals of London, Berlin, Seoul, Venice, San Francisco, Locarno, Cork film festival in Ireland among other highly prestigious festivals across the world. 'Tum Milo To Sahi' to hit the screens soon
Another tale revolving around the lives of ordinary down to earth people is gearing up in Bollywood. The film 'Tum Milo To Sahi' tells the story of three couples and their journey of life which reveals their true feelings and strong love for each other. In this fascinating trip filled with doubts, confusions, sudden realizations of affection, struggles to overcome the speculations of whether the passage of time has corroded off the innocence and selfless feelings of being devoted and diagnosis of the self to know whether things have changed so silently that they never realized a void developing between themselves, the characters finally after all the tribulations realize the one and only truth. The couples come face to face with the fact that long ago itself their roots had embraced each other so strongly and the souls have melted emitting a power that do not allow anything or anyone to harm the oneness. The three couples are presented at three different stage of life from late teens, to mid thirties and late fifties. 'Tum Milo Toh Sahi' directed by Kabir Sadanand and produced by Forth Wall Productions has completed the final shooting schedule last week in Mumbai. The main actors in the movie are Nana Patekar, Dimple Kapadia, Suneil Shetty, Vidya Malvade, Anjana Sukhani and Rehan Khan.
After Nana Patekar, Sahil Singh breaks his leg
One of the important characters and leading model Sahil Singh of fantasy costume drama Chandramukhi is cooling his heels in a hospital room. Sahil Singh broke his leg while jumping down from a height. Unluckily he could not maintain his balance and landed on his leg from a wrong angle. "Sahil had to do stunt, and he did not want a duplicate. In fact Sahil Singh is just now introduced in the serial. Poor fellow broke his leg and his leg is so badly swollen," says co star Mamik. Comments director Sunil Agnihotri, "It was his first schedule and he was required to jump from a height of twenty feet. However, Sahil landed down with a thud and now he is in a cast for four weeks. It's like sar mundate hi ole pade. This is his first serial because till now he has only done modeling." It's unfortunate because this also puts the shooting on a hold. Sunil has no intentions of either changing the track or replacing the artiste. Sahil is important since he is playing the love interest of Chandramukhi. "We have enough bank. Only thing is that once we start shooting now it will have to be at break neck speed but we will cope up." Shot at outdoor locations like Kulu Manali, Raj Pipla and Mahableshwar, Chandramukhi is a huge costume fantasy with a still bigger star cast of Deepak Parashar, Natasha Sinha, Krutika Desai, Mamik, Sachin Khurana, Nishigandha Wad, Amita Nagia, Goga Kapoor, Shiva, Sanjiva, Raja Chaudhray, Ram Mohan, Vinod Kapoor, Rita Jagtiani, Dinesh Hingoo, Ria Walia, Gunjan Pant, Mahindra Ghule, Manish Sharma, Savi Juneja, Yogesh, Anwar Fatehan, Jai Prakash, Shandar Amrohi With Vindu Dara Singh.
