Looks like the double and triple acting which was a huge trend in the mid 70s and 80s is back in Kannada film industry after a long time. The first in the row is Shivarajkumar's 'Bhajarangee' where Shivarajkumar will be seen in two different roles. The two roles will be placed in two different eras. Upendra will also be seen in two roles in his latest film 'Bramha' where he will be seen as a 16th century warrior and a present generation scientist. Srinagara Kitty will be portraying three roles in his next film 'Bahuparak'. Buzz is that actress Ramya will be seen in two different roles in a film directed by veteran Telugu director Kodi Ramakrishna. Almost all the heroes including Dr Rajkumar, Vishnuvardhan, Ambarish, Prabhakar and others had tried their hard in multiple roles in a single film in the 70s and 80s. The same thing seems to have arrived this year, but with a different touch.
Oscar Winner Resul Pookutty Makes Sandalwood Debut
Oscar-winning sound editor and mixer Resul Pookutty, has made his Kannada debut. He will work in Apurva Kasaravalli's upcoming film Niruttara. Apurva, son of acclaimed film-maker Girish Kasaravalli, will make his directorial debut through Niruttara. Speaking to Times of India, Apurva has revealed how he managed to rope in the Academy Award winner. "It wasn't as big a task as one would expect. I asked a friend of mine to put me in touch with Resul and I then narrated the script to him. He liked the story, as well as how I had planned to use sound in the film. The thing about technicians like Resul is that they need to be convinced of the story and the team, irrespective of how big the project is. I'm glad that he felt this was the right project for him to make his Kannada debut," he has said. Niruttara stars Rahul Bose, Aindrita Ray and Bhavana in important roles.
‘Singam’ to roar in Sandalwood
After stealing hearts in Tamil and Telugu, ‘Singam’, the Suriya starrer, is all set to speak in Kannada. Popular Sandalwood producer Shankare Gowda has acquired the remake rights of the movie, we learn. If sources are to be believed, the Kannada version has been named ‘Kempe Gowda’ and Sudeep will play the role of a police officer, which was beautifully enacted by Suriya in the Tamil original directed by Hari. It is said that Sudeep himself would wield the megaphone too. “He had directed ‘Just Math Mathalli’, which has Ramya opposite Sudeep himself, for the same producer Shankare Gowda,” sources add. They also have it that Kempe Gowda was the name of the person, who founded Bengaluru and hence the title has enormous value. ‘Singam’, produced by Studio Green in association with Reliance Big Pictures, was released all over Tamil Nadu by Sun Pictures.
Jigarthanda goes to Sandalwood
Critically acclaimed Tamil musical gangster film "Jigarthanda" is being remade in Kannada featuring actors Rahul and Ravi Shankar in the lead roles. The yet-untitled remake is being helmed by actor-filmmaker Sudeep. "Rahul will be reprising the role of Siddharth, while I'll play Bobby Simha's part in the remake. We've already started shooting," Ravi Shankar, who plays the main antagonist, told. The remake also features Samyukta Hornad in the role originally played by Lakshmi Menon. Talking about his role, Shankar said: "When I watched the original, I was stunned by the performance of Simha, who also won a National award for it. I'm trying to bring a new perspective to the character with my experience."
Krishna Vamsi gets a Sandalwood 'Nakshatram'
Krishna Vamsi has got on board a Sandalwood 'Nakshatram'. In short, he has roped in the Kannada star Sudeep (who is familiar to the Telugu audience because of Eega and Baahubali) to play a defining role in his film Nakshatram. The film stars Sundeep Kishan in the role of an aspiring cop. If the reports saying Sudeep will be seen in a cop's role are true, we can expect a strong Sudeep-Sandeep camaraderie in the screenplay. Since Krishna Vamsi is known to extract splendid performances from crucial character artists in his film, expect Sudeep to rock it! The movie is produced under Sri Chakra Media in association with K Srinivasulu of Butta Bomma Creations, S Venugopal and Sajju of Win win win creations. If this film works, it will be a huge comeback moment for Krishna Vamsi, besides being a godsend for Sundeep Kishan. The director-actor duo badly need a hit and Nakshatram might just come as a much-needed succor.
