Pirivom Santhippom: Star studded function
The star studded function marked the launch of the music track of 'Pirivom Santhipom' held in Santham Cinemas in Chennai on December 9. Vijay and Prabhu Deva released the audio. Rama Narayanan, Kaliapili G. Sekaran, Abhirami Ramanathan, Parthiban, Madhavan, Vidyasagar, and Dharani, were among the dignitaries who graced the occasion. Vijay, who is known for brief speech in public forum, delivered a relatively longer one. He was all in praise for Cheran, for his distinguished efforts to make good films. He also expressed his willingness to act in Cheran's film. Cheran revealed that he could not make a film featuring Vijay despite the fact that the star had given him call sheet for a movie titled 'Pokkisham'. 'The delay in making the Autograph was the reason for not being able to make use of his call sheet', said Cheran. He too expressed his eager to direct Vijay. 'I want the Tamil people to see you in a different profile'. Parthiban's speech was full of praise on the film and the heroine Sneha. We could see Sneha blushing while Parthiban went on heaping laurels on her beauty and her amazing smile. He also had some words to praise for Cheran for his dedication, down to earth attitude, and hard work. The song screened in the function portrayed a grand marriage of family belonging to Karaikkudi Chettiyar community. Abhirami Ramanathan revealed that he too belonged to the community and requested everyone belonging to the community to view the film. The Vidyasagar musical has the stamp of his melody. The film will hit the halls on Pongal.
'Pirivom Santhipom' - In tune with grammar
The team 'Pirivom Santhipom' has come out with a novel idea in terms of music. Vidyasagar and Karu Pazhaniappan have planned to have the songs based on the grammar of Tamil language. And the lyricists Kapilan, Yuga Bharathi, and Jayantha have responded in an admirable manner to write excellent lyrics based on the concepts in Tamil grammar for poetic rendition. What is the idea behind it? 'We want to do something different and difference with a purpose', says Pazhaniappan. Vidyasagar is a music director, who represents the old school of music, which puts lyrics and feelings ahead of tunes and instruments. The musician believes that creating tunes for lyrics is better than writing lyrics for the tunes. Vidyasagar is also among those who believe in melody in the era of remixes and raps. The songs created in a novel way, strictly based on the traditional format, have come out well. They might gain more popularity when seen with the context, i.e. in the movie. Tamil is one of the ancient languages that have a well defined and comprehensive grammar. It is quite amazing that the Tamil grammar, formulated before two thousand years ago, still has the potential to inspire creativity.
Santhanu promises to deliver
Expectations are high on debutant Santhanu even before he commences the shooting for his maiden venture Sakkaraikatti. Since his father K Bhagyaraj is a acclaimed actor-director, people would naturally expect Santhanu to hit the target right way. Santhanu says, 'Of course I have pressure and I have to live up the expectations of the masses. When I acted with my father as a child artiste in Vettiya Madichu Kattu, I learnt the nuances of acting. I watched my dad very close in the sets. Later when he directed Parijatham, I was almost like an assistant director to him, helping in completing the film'. All these emboldened him to try my skills acting in Sakkaraikatti. 'I am fortunate to work with a set of highly-skilled technicians in my debut venture itself. Though I am happy, it creates some tension in me for I have to give my best in the movie.' A nice challenge to have.

Santhanam: One more to the list
There has been never any dearth of quality comedians in Tamil films. From NSK down to recent times, Tamil films have been well served by a series of talented comedians. In recent times, Vadivelu and Vivek have been on top with their unique brand of comedy. And joining the list is Santhanam. The young comedian acquitted himself in Manmadhan. More recently, he again turned in a good show in Something Something Unakkum Enakkum. Now, he has again showed his spontaneous talent in Sillunu Oru Kaadhal. Though his character is miniscule, the young man has acquitted himself and now looks on the way to cementing his place in the industry. As a comedian, Santhanam combines the virtue of Vivek, Vadivelu and Goundamani. He has come to cinema through TV. He is a welcome and worthy addition to the long list of comedians in Tamil cinema.
