Saroja Devi, who has enthralled many with her charming looks and pristine performances, was fondly called 'Abinaya Saraswathi' by many. Her sheer presence was always enough to radiate the screen. Her histrionic abilities amply complemented her charisma. Lovers of yesteryear films can never forget her portrayals in films like Iruvar Ullam, Thamarai Nenjam, Paalum Pazhamum and Kalyanaparisu, among many others. This immaculate performer was honored with a doctorate by Bangalore University, on the occasion of its 42nd convocation. Governor of the State, His Excellency TN Chaturvedi, presented her with the honorary doctorate.
Saroja: the invitation tells you all
The Chennai 600028 team is back to the field. They are ready for the next match and raring to go. 'Saroja', the forthcoming film by Amma Creations, directed by Venkat Prabhu, is launched tomorrow (Dec 5) morning at Hotel Green Park, in Chennai. The invitation itself reflects the creativity and confidence of the team. The invitation is actually a table top calendar, featuring the visuals of the photo session of the movie on one side and the monthly calendar on the other side of the sheet. If the stunning visuals trigger your anticipation of the movie, the monthly calendar shows the confidence of the team. In the 13 month calendar (from Dec 2007 ' Dec 2008) some dates are marked with some remarks. You notice a colourful decoration surrounding 2007, Dec 5 with a note saying: 'Saroja Inauguration Day'. If you keep on turning the pages, you find a note in the date May 9, saying that, 'In Theaters Today'. Yes. The movie will be a summer release. Then you have the notes like '25th day', '50th day', '75th day', and '100th day' on the relevant dates. It goes on in the same pattern till December 2008 with '225th day' and '237th day' marked on the dates 19 and 31 respectively. Finally, there is a humbly note: 'This is our desire. It would definitely come true with your blessings'. The team is ready to rock. The visuals suggest you a wholesome youthful entertainer. It has glamour, humor, and action. A couple of visuals show Prakash Raj in a different get up. Sensational young music director Yuvan Shankar Raja is featured in a page, promising you a youthful musical. The novel invitation is just a sample of what is in store. We wish the team a great success.
Saroja: Grand gala launch
Amma Creations' next movie, 'Saroja' by Chennai 600028 fame Venkat Prabu is launched today (Dec 5) in a function held at Hotel Green Park, in Chennai. The function was marked by the presence of many leading personalities of Tamil film industry including K. Balachandar, Mani Rathnam, Shankar, AVM Saravanan, Ibrahim Rowther, S.P. Balasubramaniam, Gangai Amaran, Vishal, Ameer, Lingusamy, Thankar Bachan, Cheran, Madhavan, Seeman, Balaji Sakthivel, Karthi, Sham, and Sandhya. Jayaram, Vega and rest of the actors who act in 'Saroja' were present. Most of the speakers rendered a very brief speech to wish Venkat Prabhu success in his forthcoming venture. SPB, in his relatively long speech, recalled his friendship with Gangai Amaran during their young age. It was SPB who helped Amaran for his love marriage. The gifted singer thrilled everyone by singing a song in his majestic voice. He also sang 'happy birthday' song for Amaran, who celebrates his birthday December 8. KB in his speech showered praise on director Ameer for creating a hero in is film. He was mentioning about Karthi. 'Heroes are not born. They are made. Ameer has made Karthi a hero', said KB. 'I was very particular to attend this function since I could not attend the 100th day function of Chennai 600028', he further added. Mani Rathnam, who came to the mike, did not make any speech. He requested Venkat to come to the stage and conveyed him his best wishes. 'Saroja' too would be a Yuvan Shankar Raja musical. The young musician could not attend the function since he was very busy with the rerecording work for Billa, which is slated to be released soon. The team has precisely planned their work. The movie is planned to be released on May 9, 2008.
Saroja the story of 24 hours
T. Siva's Amma Creations' forthcoming movie 'Saroja', a thriller, tells you the story of the incidents that takes place in 24 hours. The team has so far toiled for 47 days and it has to shoot for 30 more days. All these hard work is to show what happens in just one day. The story travels in various paths simultaneously and all the paths get connected by a single factor. It is Saroja, the character, which is the connection factor. The tag line fittingly tells the crux of the story: One Ordinary Day Four Ordinary Men and One Extraordinary Situation. Vega, who dons the role of Saroja, was born and brought up in Australia. The team discovered her in Mumbai. Mirchi Siva, SPB Charan, Premji Amaran and Vaibav are trying to woo Saroja. Veterans like Prakashraj and Jayaram don important roles in the movie. Director Venkat Prabhu has made SPB Charan, the producer of his maiden venture as an actor in 'Saroja', Technical department looks very strong. The camera is handled by Sakthi Chidambaram, who cranked the camera for Chennai 600028. He is using Super 35 Format Film, the variety, which was used for films like 'Sivaji' and 'Dasavatharam'. Though 70 % of the movie is happening in night, there won't be much dark scenes, informs an insider. We have already reported about the special efforts being made to make the sound track quite attractive. The unit is trying to rope in one of the two lead sound designers of the famous Hollywood flick 'Lord of the Rings'. Vitesh, the Art Director, has done a wonderful job and the team is confident that his work in the film will be talked for a long time in the industry. The bilingual movie, being made in Tamil and Telugu simultaneously, is growing fast. It is scheduled to be released by the month of June.
'Saroja': Technically Sound
Venkat Prabhu, who shot to fame as a director with 'Chennai 600028', is confident that directorial venture 'Saroja' would enthrall youth. The movie captures happenings within 24 hours. 'Sudden turns and a twist of a whole day is 'Saroja', he says. Produced by T Siva under the banner of Amma Creations, the film has been titled as 'Seven' in Telugu. Venkat Prabhu says, 'Quiet similar to my 'Chennai 600028', 'Saroja' too is a youthful commercial entertainer.' He said, 'The script is simple. Yuvan Shankar Raja has come up with peppy songs.' 'It's a film based on the life of youth. We are trying to throw light on the natural feelings of youngsters. You can see them live in 'Saroja'. Saroja Devi to be honored
Veteran actress Saroja Devi is one among four great film personalities who will be conferred with 'One Time Award for Life Time Achievement' for services to the Indian film industry. Commemorating the Diamond Jubilee celebrations of India's 60 years of independence, the central government has come up with this novel way of recognizing India's favorite children. The other film personalities to be honored on this prestigious occasion are thespian Dileep Kumar, legendary singer Lata Mangeshkar and director, producer Tapan Sinha. As Tapan Sinha's health is not doing very well at the moment, the organizers have decided to honor him today at his residence in Kolkata. Union minister for information and broadcasting Priyaranjan Das Munshi will do the honors. Actress Saroja Devi acted in Tamil, Telugu and Malayalam films during her career in the '50s and '60s. She was a much sought after actress during her time and has paired with M. G. Ramachandran and Sivaji Ganesan in many a film. Known for her demure and sweet way of talking she made many a heart beat a skip with her performances. Mangeshkar started her singing career in the early '40s as a teenager and went on to rule the roost in the world of playback singing.
