Senior players don’t want to be second best

Kings XI Punjab skipper Kumara Sangakkara is not surprised that Sachin Tendulkar, Jacques Kallis, Mathew Hayden, Shane Warne and Anil Kumble, have outclassed many youngsters in the Indian Premier League (IPL), as he says that senior players are never satisfied being the second best. “They all are very experienced players with solid records. They have played for so long and also if you see their contribution towards the game they have made a lot of runs and took many wickets,” said Sangakkara here Friday evening. “Like Anil Kumble and Muttiah Muralitharan are amazing. It’s true that old habits die hard. They just don’t want to be the second best and are performing consistently. But yes, youngsters are also learning many things from them.” So far in the IPL-III, Kings XI Punjab are tottering at the last spot with only two wins in their 10 matches. However, Sangakkara is still optimistic and feels that he has got a good team. “I am happy with my team and I have got a great side in the form of Kings XI Punjab,” he pointed out. Kings XI Punjab play Mumbai Indians, the table toppers in the IPL, at the Punjab Cricket Association (PCA) stadium Friday evening.
