Shabana Walks the Ramp

Shabana Azmi is a stylish woman. Multiple National and International awards winning actor is the true ambassador of Indian Cultural diversity. She is currently working on two diametrically different subjects in 'Honeymoon Travels' and 'Umrao Jaan'. In the latter she is playing the role her mother played in Muzaffar Ali's classic. It's a role very close to her heart and she jocularly fought tooth-n-nail with director J P Dutta to grab the part where she is the motherly figure around Aishwarya Rai. Apart from enacting powerful performances, Azmi is a style statement in her own right when it comes to garbing 'different' designer clothing. Be it her favourite Chicken Kurtas or simple embroidered sarees, Shabana carries them with grace. Yesterday the film star and former MP presented an offering from The Royal Mahabharata Collection by fashion designer Satya Paul in a five star hotel in Mumbai. She was a unique picture of exuberance collaborating with intelligence as she strutted the Ramp like a Pro. Truly Shabana Azmi is a woman of substance who knows how to wow the gallery.

Shabana, Farah to Receive TMG Award on Dec. 7

Shabana Azmi is basking in the superlative performance in her last release 'Umrao Jaan' while choreographer Farah Khan is busy with the preproduction work of her next film 'Om Shanti Om' starring Shahrukh Khan. And both the ladies have something else to celebrate as well. They will be honoured at Britain's TMG awards on December seventh. Farah is an unlikely choice but considering that she tried to promote Indo-Peace peace through her film 'Main Hoon Na' apart from being an internationally renowned choreographer (she recently choreographed for Latino sensation Shakira) she has been selected for the honour. Shabana is no stranger to awards considering her colossal work in the field of politics, social work and tremendous contribution to arts and movies. MusicMazaa applauds the spirit of Shabana Azmi and Farah Khan.

Shabana to Boman - What IF?

Boman Irani is touched. Well, not literally. And this isn't to do with the tender harmless kiss that Shabana plants on his lips in Honeymoon Travels..... It seems Shabana Azmi gave her co-star a very special gift recently. While shooting for Honeymoon Travels' Shabana Azmi & Boman Irani spoke about so many things, from co-stars to cameramen. Shabana casually asked Boman about his favorite poem. He said 'If' by Rudyard Kipling. Then, on the last day of shooting Boman received a surprise gift from Shabana. It was a perfume called 'If' in a book called 'If' and inside this there was the poem by Kipling! Who, except Shabana, could make such a gesture?

Shabana Azmi learns Punjabi while leg heals

Shabana Azmi has found an inventive way of spending her time while she waits for her fractured leg to heal. She has been learning Punjabi at home for the dubbed Punjabi version of Gurinder Chadha’s “It’s A Wonderful Afterlife”. And Shabana is having a ball. “I’ve been dubbing Gurinder Chadha’s film from the English to the Punjabi. The Punjabi version is called ‘Hai Mar Java’. I never knew I could speak Punjabi! It’s the first time, and I’m enjoying myself. A girl named Shweta who is a professional Punjabi dubbing instructor is guiding me on the right pronunciation and diction. She seems quite pleased with the results.” Shabana has more reason to be happy. Her husband Javed Akhtar has been nominated to the Rajya Sabha. Says the ecstatic wife. “I am delighted with Javed’s nomination to the Rajya Sabha. His is a secular liberal articulate and most important of all sane voice that we need in today’s stressful times. He truly is to the manner born!” Speaking on how Javed Akhtar could make a difference from the parliament Shabana says, “I expect he will take up issues of the film industry, secularism, women and the city of Mumbai. He is fortunate to have around him a resource base of academics activists and the corporate world. You cannot fix Javed into a type…he embraces a cross section of interests and people”. Then Shabana gets personal, “I am humbled that in the history of the Rajya Sabha we are the first husband wife duo that have both been nominated by the President.” Incidentally both Shabana and Javed have won five national awards each, and three of them in a row. Reacts composer-singer Shankar Mahadevan, a long-time collaborator with Javed Akhtar, “I am extremely happy Javed Saab has been nominated. I consider him among the most most intelligent persons in our country. He’s extremely well-read and can handle any issue related to any topic. Moreover he has always shown a deep concern for the problems within and outside the film industry. I’d say he’s an ideal nominee for the Rajya Sabha.” Adds Hema Malini, “He’ll do a good job, I’m sure.”
