Shankar goes global trotting
Director Shankar known to be a perfectionist when it comes to finalizing locations with the grandeur element is reportedly on a three-week world tour to choose the right locations for his film 'Robot' starring superstar Rajinikanth. Shankar has planned on beautiful Vienna in Austria for a spectacular song sequence. The ace director accompanied by cinematographer Ratnavel, will be going to Austria first and then will scout for locations in Rio de Janeiro, the second major city of Brazil. Starting off a film by shooting a spectacular song sequence has been Shankar's habit over the years. The 'Vaaji, Vaaji' song was shot in Hyderabad in an extravagant set before proceeding with the rest of the 'Sivaji'. Similarly, 'O Sukumari' was picturized first for 'Anniyan'. Going by the same trend, one can expect 'Robot' to be kick started with a song sequence featuring Rajinikanth and Aishwarya Rai in Vienna. Hanoi in Vietnam would be the duo's final destination in their location hunting spree. The shooting for the film is expected to begin sometime in August.
Shankar, Ehsaan, Loy ROCK ON To Dizzy Heights
It was a magnificent live performance to cherish. Infinity Mall, Andheri danced to the beats of Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy as the talented trio put on a wonderful performance to mark the music launch of their forthcoming film 'Rock On' last night. The event also marked the debut of Farhan Akhtar on stage. Of the nine songs in the album, Farhan Akhtar has sung five. The director of the film Abhishek Kapoor is pretty ecstatic with things and says, "Everyday of recording the music was an exploration into something fresh, radical and original. Our music directors Shankar, Ehsaan and Loy took to the script like fish to water and gave it a powerhouse soundtrack straight from the heart. Working with Javed Saab was a complete revelation. He has a unique way with words - measuring them for their texture and fragrance. All in all, I had a blast making the film and am sure it'll have the same effect on you. Rock On!" The producer of the film Ritesh Sidhwani also shares the joy. "Rock On will be a cult film. The experience of creating music for this film has been fascinating and exhilarating...and when you have a team like Shankar, Ehsaan, Loy and Javed saab, we really didn't have too worry much. We've worked with them earlier and so the process of creating music was all the more fun". "Rock On is a youth oriented film, so the music needed a distinct sound, keeping in mind contemporary appeal along with melodious tracks, which these music maestros have woven together effortlessly." 'Rock On' is a refreshing tale of four friends who have music in their souls and thirst to put together a band. But events in their lives are not so refreshing and are forced to abandon their desire. But then 'time the weary traveler' metes out justice by bringing them together with the stuff that dreams are made of. Apart from Farhan Akhtar, the film also features Prachi Desai, Arjun Rampal, Purab Kohli, Shahana Goswami and Luke Kenny. Since the film needs that much of authenticity, the actors who play the musicians were actually trained by professionals to bring out the 'believable' factor. Purab Kohli trained with Lindsay D'Mello on drums, Arjun Rampal trained with Chandresh from the band 'Dream out Loud', Luke Kenny worked with Loy and Farhan trained with Shankar for vocals and Ehsaan for rhythm guitar. Cinematography for the film is by Jason West, production design by Shashank Tere and costumes by Niharika Khan. The film is produced by Ritesh Sidhwani and Farhan Akhtar under the banner of Excel Entertainment and presented with Big Pictures. The film will hit movie theaters on the 29th of August worldwide. Rock On's album is by BIG MUSIC and was unveiled last night by Javed Akhtar and along with Big Music representative Kulmeet Makkar.
Shankar's 'Veyil' in Telugu
Cinema is not just a source of entertainment. It also has some social responsibility. It is Shankar who started giving a good message to the society with a sense of responsibility. His films like 'Gentleman, Premikudu, Bharatiyudu, Jeans, Okey Okkadu and Aparichitudu' ' each of them prove this. This creative genius had penned his own chapter in the history of film industry. After directing some good films with a different taste, he turned a producer and bringing out the talent among others. His first film as producer 'Kadhal' is a beautiful love story. The film was dubbed into Telugu as 'Premiste' and proved a big hit. His second film in Tamil 'Pulikesi' also became a big success. Now he did the third film called 'Veyil'. As everyone knows, Shankar's film will have two angles. One is message and the other is entertainment. This film is being dubbed into Telugu now and several people vied for the dubbing rights. However, it is the SP Creations which had bagged the rights and is presenting the film in Telugu. Directed by Vasantha Balan with Bharat and Bhavana in the lead, the film would be released with Shankar as presenter and Nukarapu Surya Prakasa Rao as the producer on the banner of SP Creations. The dubbing activities of the film would begin in the third week of October. Producer Surya Prakasa Rao says, 'I feel very lucky for bagging the rights of 'Veyil' produced by a great director like Shankar in Tamil. We are yet to finalize the title for the film. We will release the audio by the end of October and the film in the second week of November. Screamers who penned dialogues for several hit films and who had achieved a hat-trick by writing dialogues for three hit films last year such as 'Chandramukhi, Aparichitudu and Premiste' is busy in giving dialogues for the film. The 19-year-old GV Prakash Kumar, the nephew of AR Rehman gave fantastic music for this film and it created ripples in the audio world in Tamil. We are quite confident the audio as well as the film would also attract the Telugu audiences.'
