Selvamani, who is known for controversial films based on the current affairs of our nation, is ready with 'Pulanvisaranai ' 2'. As expected, the movie has met with a lot of problems when it was sent for censorship. The movie is based on petrol issue and the director is believed to have made many sensational and controversial observations on the issue. Censor board members keenly watched each and every scene keeping the track record of the director in mind and they found many scenes objectionable. When they said they wanted many scenes and dialogues removed or changed, Selvamani got upset and argued with the members. It is worth recalling that Selvamani's previous movie 'Kutra Pathirigai' too encountered severe problems in the process of censorship. The movie, based on the assassination of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi, was rejected by the board but Selvamani got the permission to release the film by approaching the court Now the tug of war between censor board and Selvamani over 'Pulanvisaranai ' 2' has begun. However, it might not be a big problem for the director, who is used for such tussles.

High Court clears Selvamanis Kutra Pathirigai
It is good news for director R K Selvamani as his Kutra Pathirigai, based on former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi's assassination, has been cleared for release. The Madras High Court on Thursday directed Regional Censor Board to give certification for the movie within four weeks and also directed Selvamani to cut a couple of scenes from the movie. A relieved Selvamani, talking to media persons, said, 'This brings great joy to me. My long wait for over 14 years has come to an end. We began shooting the movie in 1991 and completed it the next year. But since then, we have been running from pillar to post to get censor certification.' Mansoor Ali Khan plays one-eyed Sivarasan in the movie. Says Selvamani, 'Though we have dealt in detail about the assassination, no mention would be made about LTTE.' The High Court flayed the Central Board for Film Certification for what it called rank political partisanship and asked the Board to release the film with an `A' certificate. As for the scenes showing a former Chief Minister, the Bench said it was a work of fact and fiction, and that there was nothing wrong in retaining the portions. Rapping the CBFC for fighting the case for over 10 years, the Judges said it was condemnable. Selvamani, who completed the film in 1993, will now release the film soon. We wish Selvamani all success.
