'Slum Bala' gets U/A

The debut direction of journalist turned director D.Sumana Kitthur 'Slum Bala' based on 'Dadagiriya Dinagalu' of Agni Sridhar in which the macho hero Vijay and charming Shuba Poonj play lead roles has been given U and A certificate by the regional censor board. For the smoking and some drinking scenes in the film the censor board has passed 'U/A' and I have no objection to it says Sumana Kitthur speaking to this correspondent on Monday morning. The Regional Censor Board has not suggested even a small cut is a feel of proudest moment for me says Sumana Kitthur. Ravindra and Syed Aman are the producers of 'Slum Bala' that has story and dialogues by Agni Sridhar. A.C.Mahender is the cameraman and Arjun has scored the music. Samantha to play slum dweller in 'Vada Chennai'

Actress Samantha Ruth Prabhu, known mostly for essaying stylish roles onscreen, will be seen in a non-glamorous avatar for filmmaker Vetrimaaran's next Tamil directorial "Vada Chennai", a two-part film featuring Dhanush in the lead role. To be set against the backdrop of North Madras, the film will chronicle 30 years in the life of a gangster. "Samantha will play a slum girl in the film and she's also most likely to dub in her own voice. Playing a character with a tan and no make-up, she will also pick up the local accent," a source from the film's unit told. The film will roll from next year and Dhanush has already set aside nearly 200 days for its shoot. This will be the second time in a row Samantha will be teaming up with Dhanush, who had previously worked with her in upcoming Tamil film "Thanga Magan"

Sivakarthikeyan plays a slum boy in Mohan Raja film

Sivakarthikeyan’s untitled film with Mohan Raja will apparently have four prominent actors taking charge of the humor portions. Yes, RJ Balaji, Robo Shankar, Thambi Ramaiah and Sathish will all be a part of this socio- action comedy entertainer. Another interesting detail about this venture is that Sivakarthikeyan reportedly plays a slum boy. It looks to be a story of how a boy from a slum fights against evils forces of society. Last week, the team was spotted shooting a slum portion scene near T. Nagar. Reportedly the team has created a slum setup where some of the portions of the film will be shot in the coming days. Stay tuned for more updates!

'Naai Kutty' Saga of a slum dweller

Prasanna who has played a sophisticated Non Resident Indian in the film 'Achamundu Achamundu' will be seen as a Chennai slum dweller in his next film 'Naai Kutty'. The film has been christened with this unusual name because the protagonist of the film, as the story goes, was abandoned by his mother in a road side dust bin along with a group of puppies. A rickshaw peddler spots the baby, names him Naai Kutty and raises him. The life of this abandoned baby as he grows up in a merciless and cold world forms the rest of the story. The director of the film S. S. Joe, a former associate of Ram Subbu who churned out the film 'Katrathu Thamizh', was himself raised in the slums of Chennai and so is expected to bring out the emotional and social plight of slum dwellers with reality as the strength. 'Naai Kutty' is produced by V. A. Durai who had produced the films 'Ennama Kannu', 'Looty' and 'Pithamagan' earlier. Actress Nicole has been roped in as the heroine. A host of new comers are also part of the project. Music is by Sundar C. Babu.
