Actress Juhi Chawla says that her upcoming film "Chalk N Duster" will deeply touch viewers and make them want to clap for their teachers and hug them. "'Chalk N Duster' is something that touches you, which makes you both cry and laugh. This is a story that'll touch you deeply, make you stand up and clap for your teachers or go and give them a hug," Juhi told. The shooting of the film had begun in April and Juhi said that now they are at its end and expect to release in a couple of months. The film has been termed an educational film about teachers but Juhi says: "It is about teachers and it involves children, but it's not just about teachers. It's about people, it's about ethics and the effect teachers have on their students. It's a lovely script." Juhi considers the film to be on similar lines of other films based on children's education and difficulties like "Taare Zameen Par" and "Stanley Ka Dabba". "It's from a similar genre. 'Taare Zameen Par' brought you something really new but at the same time, something that you would perhaps be aware of it and heard of, but it brought to the fore the experience of what it is to be dyslexic or to have a dyslexic child." The film is directed by Jayant Gilatar and has been produced by Amin Surani. It also stars Shabana Azmi, Jackie Shroff, Divya Dutta, Samir Soni, and Girish Karnad, among others.
The Silent Heroes' like an adventurous thriller: Mahesh Bhatt
The Silent Heroes", a film starring 13 deaf children, has all the makings of an international adventurous thriller that will entertain family audiences, according to filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt. Bhatt says he is "disgusted with the insensitive attitude of the society towards people with special needs". "It's bizarre that the world looks at deaf people as if they are oppressed, handicapped and helpless. But I have always felt that they are more competent than us, they have superior IQ and sharper senses than us," he said. "I wanted to show people that they are not helpless or a burden on us. Being silent is not an impediment for them and they are still heroes, which prompted me to name the film 'The Silent Heroes'." About similar films based on such children, he said: "I think just like 'Taare Zameen Par' and 'Stanley Ka Dabba', our film will also touch the hearts of the audiences. "And like them, our film will modify the mindset towards such kids to show that they are not disabled but are differently abled." The film's teaser will be unveiled on July 21. The film is being produced by Kamal Birani and Mahesh Bhatt, presented by Hans Productions and Reality Films and is slated to release in September.
Divya Dutta Hollywood bound
Versatile actress Divya Dutta, who wowed audiences with her performances in “Delhi 6″, “Morning Walk” and “Welcome to Sajjanpur”, has bagged a couple of Hollywood projects. One of them is “Hisss”, and she says it’s one of her best roles. Directed by Jennifer Lynch, the film is about a snakewoman who can transform herself into a human being at will. While Mallika Sherawat plays the female lead, Divya will be seen as Irrfan Khan’s love interest. “It is one of the challenging roles I have received. I am really looking forward to it. I play Irrfan’s love interest, who is passionate as well as sensitive. The role is not cliched and has subtle things to portray. It is one of my best roles,” Divya said on phone. The film is being shot in the jungles of Kerala and other parts of India to give it an authentic touch. Apart from “Hisss”, Divya has two more Hollywood projects in hand. One of them is Emmy winning director Fred Holmes’ “Heart Land”. “‘Heart Land’ is a light hearted film in which I am playing a Punjabi girl. It deals with a sensitive relationship my character shares with a much older man from the US,” said the actress, who seems to be impressed with Hollywood’s working style. “People from the West are extremely passionate and disciplined about work. Everyone, from the junior level to the director, is so involved that we have no choice but to give our best,” she added. The films also stars Amelia Jackson Gray, Reg Grant and Stephan Mario Singh. Divya refuses to divulge details about her third Hollywood project saying she is bound by a contract. The actress was also seen on the small screen in serials like “Kadam” and “Shanno ki Shaadi”. She says although she enjoyed her stint on TV, she has no plans to return to soaps or serials. “Creative freedom on television is very limited and I get bored very easily. It doesn’t interest me any more,” added the actress who compered the 56th National Awards ceremony. “It (compering National Awards function) was a prestigious moment for me hosting in front of the president (Pratibha Patil). It is something I will cherish. I had kept my fingers crossed. The response was very nice,” she said. Apart from Hollywood flicks, Divya has a few Bollywood movies like “Hello Darling”, “Haat – The Weekly Bazaar”, “Chehere”, Amole Gupte’s “Stanley Ka Dabba” and another one with director Sudhir Mishra in her kitty.
