DMK felicitates TM. Soundarrajan

Vairamuthu, leading lyricist of our times has once hailed the veteran playback singer T.M. Soundarrajan saying that the singer would live as long as there is wind in this world. It is an irony that the unique singer hasn't received much honors, awards, and recognitions to match his outstanding contribution to the film music. T.M. Soundarrajan, who is still singing in live concerts, has once expressed his feelings towards the lack of recognition. He was duly honored by the leading light music troupe, Lakshman Sruthi, which conducted a show featuring his songs alone. The musical troupe took T.M. Soundarrajan and his wife to the concert in a chariot in a procession to honor the singer. Now the ruling DMK is planning to felicitate this versatile singer in a grand manner. Madurai DMK, initiated by by M.K. Azhagiri, son of CM M. Karunanidhi, is gearing up to honour T.M. Soundarrajan in Madurai. Azhagiri is a fan of T.M. Soundarrajan right from his childhood. When queried about the function, T.M. Soundarrajan says, 'I have born to spread devotion through music. But I am fortunate enough to be felicitated by rationalist DMK.' T.M. Soundarrajan also takes strong objection to the remix culture. The septuagenarian blasts the trend saying that it is a brutal experiment that could kill good music.

MS Dhoni on his biopic: Didn't want to be made into hero

As a biopic based on the life of Mahendra Singh Dhoni is set to hit the big screen, the Cricketer says he wanted his movie not to be glamorous and heroic. "I did not want them (makers) to make me a hero or glamorise me, but rather show the journey, the struggle. I have played football, had been in Railways before I started playing cricket. I wanted them to show what pushed me...The journey, how I did and what happened is what I wanted to be the focus point," Dhoni told reporters at the trailer launch of 'MS Dhoni: The Untold Story'. The film is based on the life of Dhoni and it features Sushant Singh Rajput in the lead role as the cricketer. "When I started I never thought I would play for India. I never think about achievements. When we play cricket in school or in park we think of winning the match, we don't think about milestone," he said. His mantra is to live in present and not think of past and future, he said. "I try to live in present but I do learn lessons from the past and have my goals for future," he added. The film also stars Kiara Advani who will be playing the part of Mahendra Singh Dhoni's wife Sakshi. The movie directed by Neeraj Pandey is slated to release on September 30.

Don’t treat me like a producer, I’m a Superstar – Shahrukh Khan

Shahrukh Khan is neck deep into the promotion of his upcoming mega-budget sci-fi movie “RA.One”. He is appearing on TV shows, collaborating with various brands and using other marketing tools to promote his superhero movie, but the superstar refuses to be labelled a “marketing guru”. “These terms are all nonsensical things. Every actor talks about his films. I’m here since so many years. I also do things when my film is about to release, but I’m no marketing guru,” Shah Rukh told reporters here Monday on the sidelines of an event to announce the collaboration between You Tube and “RA.One”. “You need to be innovative when you reach out to people, so that more and more people can be aware about your film and that’s what I’m doing,” he added. Shah Rukh may not like to be called a marketing guru, but in Bollywood, SRK and Aamir Khan are known to market their films in “zara hatke” manner and for introducing novel ways of promoting movies – so much so that others have started taking the same path. “RA.One”, slated for an Oct 26 release, has been directed by Anubhav Sinha and also stars Kareena Kapoor. Shah Rukh is a man with affable manners, who treats his fans with politeness, who is patient when dealing with the media and last but not the least, his wit and humour are his forte, but he revealed that while shooting for “RA.One”, he got so angry that he threw a chair at the wall. “There was a day when I got very angry. I was hanging from the cable for a very long time, I wanted to go to the bathroom and people were disorganised. I was very tired too. So when I got down I threw a chair on the wall in anger, but it was a plastic chair. “I told them that why is everyone just treating me like a producer, I’m a superstar, they can’t make me hang for two hours,” he said.

Kanika Kapoor: I'm not Punjabi, I don't know Punjabi

Singer Kanika Kapoor, who is popular for her Bollywood songs with Punjabi lyrics, says she is from Uttar Pradesh and doesn't know the language very well. "I don't know Punjabi. I'm a UP Khatri. I recently sang a Bengali song -- an interesting song which will be out in two weeks. I've also sung a Kannada song," the singer said. "When I was memorising the lyrics of 'Baby Doll', I would say 'ye duniya peetal di'. I didn't know the Punjabi pronunciation but I learnt and delivered," Kanika told reporters on the occasion of World Music Day. Kanika shot to fame with the song "Baby Doll", which had a majority of its lyrics in Punjabi. Some of her other hit tracks like "Chittiyaan Kalaiyaan", "Desi Look", "Nachan Farrate" and even her most recent "Da Da Dasse" from "Udta Punjab" have all had a significant portion of the lyrics in Punjabi. Her surname Kapoor, generally associated with Punjabis, might be another reason why people might think Kanika is a Punjabi. Speaking about her Bollywood journey Kanika said, "Today I feel like I am an established singer in Bollywood. I carefully choose my songs. I write music as well, so I have that sensibility." "God has been very kind to me. I am bringing up my children in London, so it is a big struggle for me. I didn't get anything easy. I had to sing my songs really well to make it on my own," Kanika said. In her message on the occasion of World Music Day, which is celebrated on June 21 worldwide, Kanika said: "The World Music Day celebrates music and love. I hope that all the singers could live their dreams like I have." The song "Baby Doll" had fetched Kanika the Filmfare award for the best female playback singer.
