More news →'Tathastu' postponed... thankfully
Today seems to be a day when Sanjay Dutt seems to be in lot of news. In addition, postponement of some of his films are also making headlines. On one side his long delayed 'Sarhad Paar' is still waiting to see the light of the day, his 'Tathastu' that has been ready for around an year now is now getting ready to be released. Ironically the postponement of this Anubhav Sinha film is considered to a step in the right direction when normally it is the other way round. We have been maintaining all this while that a film of this stature should be arriving with the right kind of publicity on an appropriate date but surprisingly Tathastu's release date was announced in a hurry. First it was April 21st that was shocking in itself as the film's promotion had begun just a couple of weeks back. Then a couple of days back, the release was pushed by a week but that too was hardly convincing as people had just started getting feelers about the film. Now finally a wise decision has been taken to push the release further down by a fortnight with May 12 as the newly announced date. Coming a week after '36 China Town' [May 5], a week before 'Ankahee' [May 19] and a couple of weeks before 'Fanaa' [May 26], it may turn out to be a tight situation in May too but if the film is promoted aggressively in the weeks to follow, it should manage to find a place it truly deserves!
Jaya's comeback with 'Tathastu'
Jaya Prada is all set to make a powerful comeback with Anubhav Sinha's 'Tathastu' that releases in a couple of weeks from now. The beautiful actress who reigned Bollywood through the 80s went on to do some inconsequential roles throughout the 90s only to make a comeback of sorts with 'Kohram' [1999]. In spite of playing a lead opposite Amitabh Bachchan, she didn't have much to look forward to expect for a stray 'Bharat Bhagya Vidhata' [2002]. She was seen again with Big B in 'Khakee' [2004] but her role was hardly noticed. Now with 'Tathastu', there should be something to look forward to where she plays an important role in this Sanjay Dutt-Amisha Patel starrer social-drama.
Sanjay Dutt's next release is Tathastu
In 2005, Sanjay Dutt was mainly seen in cameos or guest appearances except for films like 'Shabd' and 'Dus' that had him in the front. Be it Tango Charlie, Parineeta, Viruddh, Shaadi No. 1, Vaah Life Ho To Aisi or a song appearance in Ek Ajnabee, there were always other stars in the movie that were projected as leads. 2006 has been different in this regard with first 'Zinda' and now 'Tathastu' releasing soon that has him in the main lead. Interestingly the movie also unites him with his 'Dus' director Anubhav Sinha who has made diverse films like 'Tum Bin' and 'Aapko Pehle Bhi Kahi Dekha Hai' in the past before coming up with a popcorn entertainer 'Dus' and now a drama 'Tathastu'. The film is about a father's struggle to fight against the immunity and numbness of the society towards the injustice done to his daughter. 'Tathastu' also stars Amisha Patel and Jaya Prada in the lead.
Tid-bits you wanted to know about Tathastu
HIT team of immensely successful 'Dus' unite again for their dramatic social "Tathastu'. The movie is about to be released by the end of this month and we present below some of the important facts and tid-bits about the film's storyline and execution: 1) 'Tathastu' is a Sanskrit word. It symbolizes the affirmative response by deities to their disciples' wishes. That's the reason why the tagline of the film reads - 'So Be It'. 2) 'Tathastu' brings together actor Sanjay Dutt, producer Nitin Manmohan and director Anubhav Sinha yet again after the success of 'Dus'. 3) While 'Dus' was a hardcore actioner, 'Tathastu' has a great dramatic appeal. 4) The film is about a father's [Sanjay Dutt] struggle against the injustice done to his daughter. Sanjay Dutt played a role on similar lines a few years for Mahesh Manjrekar's 'Pitaah'. 5) While 'Pitaah' had a village setting, 'Tathastu' has an urban setting with Sanjay Dutt enacting the role of Ravi Rajput, a 40 year-old factory supervisor. 6) Yet again, Sanjay Dutt is forced to take up law in his own hands as he fights against the "society" and "system'. 7) Amisha Patel, approximately half the age of Sanjay Dutt, plays his wife. Incidentally Amisha Patel had her biggest success [Gadar-Ek Prem Katha] when she played the wife of much older Sunny Deol. Also, she had one of her biggest flop with Sunny paaji recently in the form of 'Teesri Aankh - The Hidden Camera]. 8) Jayaprada makes a comeback after an inconsequential role in 'Khakee'. In 'Tathastu', she plays a doctor and is said to have given a great performance. 9) Gulshan Grover is what he is BEST at - playing BAD MAN, though in a much sophisticated manner. 10) 'Tathastu' would also mark the return of Manoj Pahwa, who played a funny cop in 'Being Cyrus'. 11) As per industry buzz, 'Tathastu' has a unique and terrific script, something that hasn't been ever seen before on an Indian screen. 12) The film is written by Yash-Vinay who have earlier written screenplay of 'Dus', 'Viruddh', 'Plan', 'Padmashree Laloo Prasad Yadav' and 'Kaante'. Their next release would be Vikram Bhatt's 'Ankahee'. 13) The film's highlight is a 8-minute long non-stop dialogue delivery by Sanjay Dutt in the confines of the Yerwada jail in Pune. The scene was shot using 6 cameras and had more than 2000 junior artists. 14) The film has only one song in form of a 'qawalli'. As per composer Vishal-Shekhar, its one of those intense 'qawallis' that are a must watch. It is sung by a man called Humsar Hayat who is a chief qawall at Nizamuddin mosque, New Delhi. Also it has some really gorgeous lyrics by Panchi. 15) The film was completed in a record span of less than a month.
