'THANK YOU INDIA FOR GIFTING PRIYANKA CHOPRA TO THE WORLD'
They are fascinated with the culture and history of India, but more than that they are awestruck with the talent of Bollywood's 'desi girl' Priyanka Chopra. Brian Q Quinn, on behalf of his popular American comedy troupe The Tenderloins, says Priyanka is a "worldwide treasure", adding that no one can ever "pay back India for gifting" her to the globe. The historical side of the country never ceases to amaze many, and Quinn shares that it "blows our American mind". He also says that America is a "baby country compared to India". "Every Bollywood movie looks like the most fun movie ever made, and if that was all we knew of Indian cinema, it would be enough. But then you guys gave us Priyanka Chopra, who we can all admit is a worldwide treasure," Quinn said in an e-mail interview from New York. Priyanka is on a global high, and scaling new heights with each move. After making a place for herself in the west with her musical skills, the actress landed into the foreign television space with "Quantico". Then came her presence at the Oscars and an honour at the People's Choice Awards. Now, all eyes are on her Hollywood debut film "Baywatch". Quinn added: "Personally speaking, we will never be able to pay back India for gifting Priyanka to the world. She really is something special. Thank you, India. Thank you so much." He also hopes to "appear as Priyanka Chopra's love interest in a Bollywood movie". Quinn is now adding an Indian twist to his professional front. The Tenderloins, better known as Impractical Jokers, will be hosting a digital comedy challenge titled "Sprite Comedy Konkout by Culture Machine". Culture Machine, a digital media company, has got the New York-based comedy troupe comprising Joe Gatto, James Murray, Sal Vulcano along with Quinn -- on board. The group will throw an open challenge to India's digital comedians to find out the best from the lot. The challenge begins on YouTube on Wednesday. Talking of the association, Quinn said: "We are going to challenge these amazing talents to do what we do best, embarrass themselves in the name of laughter. We have no idea how the people of India are going to react, which is why we are so looking forward to seeing what they come up with." The Tenderloins caught onto the spiral of fame with the hidden-camera comedy reality TV series "Impractical Jokers". They use a combination of hidden microphones and cameras to dare each other to go out of comfort zone and embarrass themselves. The show is in its fifth season. Quinn, who has also acted in TV series "Jokers Wild" and film "Vulgar", shared that with "Impractical Jokers" the group has stumbled upon an "eye-opening" truth. He said: "In making the show we have come to realise that you can get away with almost anything just by being confident and wearing a smile...It's very eye opening." Sharing his knowledge about the comedy industry of India, Quinn said: "We are just becoming aware of the burgeoning comedy industry in India. The best comedy comes from a specific view point, and there is no doubt that the Indian culture has it is own take on the world. "So it's going to be an exciting time for Indian comedy." Any Indian star they would like to challenge? "Suraj Sharma was so excellent in 'Life Of Pi'. It would be fun to have him goof off with us," Quinn shared.
"Do you think there is anything funnier than the media?" - Ramu
Yet another volley of questions. Yet another round of witty replies from Ramu. Read on: 1. This excuse of making films only to enjoy the process sounds irresponsible. Ans: You got me wrong. I am not making an excuse, I am saying that it is the only choice any filmmaker has whether he realizes it or not. Every one of the makers of the 120 or so films made in Bollywood every year think that they are making a film which will be a big hit. No one in the right mind will go ahead and make a film aiming it to be an average or a flop film. 95% of them will not reach their intended objective. When the audience sees the final film they imagine it has been done with carelessness and a non-thinking attitude but that would never be the case. A viewer is spending a couple of hours and around Rs.100- to buy a ticket. A maker is spending a year or more and crores of Rupees. He would never be irresponsible because he has much much more to loose than the viewer. It happens because it is an extremely difficult thing to match the mind-state of the Director, where he started from and the mind-state of the viewer when he enters the theatre. It is too complex and too long drawn out for me to explain here. 2. You yourself have raised your bar and that's the burden you carry. Ans: Maybe you are right but that is also the reason I became what I am. 3. I don't want to read articles posted by fakes like you. Ans: Ok. 4. I request you to use all your witty humour in the media movie. Ans: Of course. Do you think there is anything funnier than the media? 5. I think you source your actors from theatre. Mohanlal is known, Chakri and the Contract guy are Telugu actors. Phoonk guy is a Kannada actor. I won't even get into how you get your heroines. Did you select Fardeen Khan because he gave you money? Ans: Yes sir, Yes sir, Yes sir, you are absolutely right about what all you wish to be right. 6. You spelt Nietzsche wrong. Ands: That was a typing error. Thanks for the lesson anyway! Where do I send the cheque? 7. Why are you an atheist? Ands: Because I can go ahead and commit as many sins as I want without getting scared. 8. Stick to making movies. Sexist jokes don't make good comedy. Ands: Ok, Ma'm. 9. Only if a Government committee regulates the sensationalisation of news the media scene will improve. Ans: I disagree. If it's regulated by a Govt body it will just breed corruption and censorship which will make the situation worse. At least now the least the media is doing is to entertain us. A Government body will destroy that too. 10. I think most celebrities have found solace with internet blogs. Ans: Definitely. At least there's one place where they can communicate to whoever is interested or concerned without being edited, quoted out of context or lines being highlighted which were not meant to be etc. 11. Seems like you have very good material for the media film. Please don't screw it. Ans: I won't screw it. I will f** it. 12. Invest in a good screenplay, good writer, good cinematographer and a good music director. Ans: Please don't give away such brilliant strokes of advice for free. 13. Stop manipulating things. Ans: Ok, Your honour.
Thank god I love my job, says busy bee Priyanka Chopra
She says her body feels "battered" due to long working hours, but actress Priyanka Chopra says she is loving her job and is excited about the premiere of the second season of her international TV show "Quantico" on March 6. “17 hours!! What is happening! Thank god I love my job! Body feeling battered... Need a good Zzzzz. Love ya world! Quantico March 6,” tweeted Priyanka. The former Miss World, who is one amongst the many global names who will be a presenter at the much coveted Oscar awards ceremony, has garnered international fame for her lead role as Alex Parrish in American TV series "Quantico". Back home, the actress was last seen in Sanjay Leela Bhansali's magnum opus "Bajirao Mastani" and will next be seen playing the role of police officer Abha Mathur in Prakash Jha's directorial “Jai Gangaajal”. Priyanka says that maintaining femininity in uniform was one challenging task for her. “When you are playing a tough character, when you are dressed in a uniform it becomes very difficult to maintain femininity and that was very important to me. “Prakash-ji and I discussed that as a woman, it’s very important to celebrate womanhood and yet at the same time be in a position of authority and that’s how Abha is, which is very different from how we see tough women,” the actress said in a statement. “When they do action sequences, women somehow tend to lose their femininity. It’s beautiful that Abha is extremely feminine and very graceful but at the same time not someone to be taken for granted. She is very graceful and dignified and I enjoyed playing her," she added. "Jai Gangaajal" revolves around a woman IPS officer, who is brought in a well oiled system of the powerful, as she is thought to be weak, pliable and easy to manipulate. However, things become difficult for them when she comes into confrontational mode. “Jai Gangaajal” revisits the dusty heartland of central India and examines the society-police relationship.
I Must Thank My Cast, says Rohit Shetty
'I must thank Ajay, Arshad, Sharman and Tushar for the amazing chemistry displayed by them,' says Rohit Shetty, the director of 'Golmaal-Fun Unlimited' that released last Friday with favorable reviews. 'The kind of intensity and homework done by the cast was really overwhelming and it shows in the final output,' he adds. Rohit Shetty will be a director in demand as the film trade is buzzing with positive vibrations about his 'Golmaal'. 'The start at the box office was slightly low at about 85% but by the word of mouth, it touched 90% on the Friday show itself. It was 90% on Saturday again. And on Sunday it was 100%. Overall the weekend results have been 93%,' he says excitedly. Now a 93% means 'Golmaal' did a 'Fanaa'. I guess, the second film director has gone a bit overboard. There's no doubting that this film is good but the bomb scare at PVR cinema in Delhi and the bomb blasts in Mumbai have resulted in poor response at the weekend. And it's a sad account for a film that ought to do well. The only hope that the makers can have is that it will hold its own in the coming days due to word of mouth. As I came out of watching 'Golmaal' I had this feeling that one can make a sequel. 'You are the seventeenth or eighteenth person who has told me this thing. I had no plans so far, but since you guys are saying it, I may have to push ahead and do it. But still it's too early to get carried away' Shetty adds wisely. 'Golmaal' is a clean fun flick that can be enjoyed with one's family or friends. Rohit Shetty is going to be a name to be reckoned with in the coming days as this film shall catapult him to Big Times. He must be really hoping that the film picks up after a nervous start.
