'TN O7 AL 4777' has been recently flagged off and it is a remake of the Hindi film starring Nana Patekar Taxi No 9211. Directed by Lakshmikanthan, a former associate of Jeeva, the movie features Pasupathi, Simran, 'Anjathey' Ajmal and 'Karuppasamy Kuthagaikarar' Meenakshi playing pivotal roles. According to the director, 'the title is inspired by the car number of the former Tamilnadu Chief Minister and an icon of Tamil cinema, MGR. Interestingly, the car is kept at the T. Nagar residence of MGR even today'. 'It will not be a complete remake and we have made enough changes in the script to suit the Tamil audiences', he added. 'We are great fans of MGR. We have opted for the title after the legendary actor's car number. Even our car numbers are the same', said the producers Usha Venkatramani and Mahadevan Ganesh of GV Films. Pasupathi said, 'it's a character I wished I could do even when I watched the original. Nana Patekar had played his part exceedingly well. Hope I match up to his skills'. Simran is making her comeback with a powerful role, while Ajmal dons the character enacted by John Abraham. Said Meenakashi, 'After 'Karuppasamy Kuthagaitharar', I had several offers coming my way. But I was choosy and keen on picking the right roles. This movie promises a lot of scope for me and I decided to grab it immediately'. Interestingly Meenakshi plays a character with negative shades towards the end.
TN assembly debates on Shriya's outfit
It might sound unbelievable but it is true. The valuable time of Tamil Nadu assembly was spent to discuss on what the likes of Shriya and Namitha should or should not wear in public places. On Monday (Feb 28), Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK), a partner of the ruling alliance, launched an attack against the way the actresses dress in public places and on television. PMK Chief Whip T. Velmurugan started the debate on which TN assembly spent considerable time. The debate was revolving around the dressing of the Kollywood girls and the 'obscene shows' aired by the Tamil television channels. Some even suggested that the government should impose a dress code after seeing Shreya, and another Tamil actress Namita (left), in 'revealing' clothes. Some members went to the extent of suggesting that action must be taken so that public decency is maintained. Velmurugan launched an attack against Tamil television channels, including 'Kalaignar TV', accusing them of 'airing vulgar programmes which could spoil younger generation". He referred to Namitha's wardrobe in the popular dance show Maanada Mayilada on Kalaignar TV, where she is one of the judges for the programme. He also drew the attention of the august house towards Shriya's "improper" attires at various events including the recent `Sivaji` silver jubilee function attended by Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi. The Electricity Minister Arcot Veerasamy said that no dress code could be enforced through a law. "All that we can do is to advise them to be appropriately dressed for the occasion" the Minister said. The debate was over after the Minister's reply but the fallout of the debate might have an impact on the freedom of the actresses to dress the way they like to.
TN theaters against Vijay films
Ilayathapathy Vijay’s Kaavalan is yet again to face one more hurdle. As the film is nearing its release the theater owners association in Tamil nadu decided not to screen the film. After Sura a disaster at the box office the TN Film Exhibitors Association (TFEA) are not going to screen Vijay’s films until he compensates the losses incurred for his films. TN Film Exhibitors Association (TFEA) on Wednesday held a conference in Coimbatore which was graced by president M Annamalai and secretary R Panneerselvam has decided not to allot screens for Kaavalan until the actor pays them. All this seems like Kaavalan slated for Christmas release will not get any screens in Tamilnadu until he pays thirty percent of an expected loss of Rs 9 crores, which will turn up to Rs 3 crores.
TN State Film Awards Reinstated! Nadigar Sangam thanks CM
Tamilnadu Chief Minister J.Jayalalitha has officially announced today that the State Film Awards will be reinstated and a grand function will be arranged to distribute awards to those excel in the cinema industry. In a official statement, the Nadigar Sangam has thanked the government for this. Also, they have confirmed that J.Jayalalitha will be laying the foundation stone for Nadigar Sangam building very soon.
