What is it with the number 30 that gets women all worked up? Filmmaker Alankrita Srivastava’s “Turning 30″ deals with this touchy subject that some people term a psychological issue while others see it as a new phase of life. The film, releasing Jan 14, features former beauty queen Gul Panag as a woman who deals with a heartbreak, and a crisis in her career around her 30th birthday. Gul, who herself touched the 30-mark last year, says apart from the physical changes that one experiences, a lot of self-assessment starts poking women in the head too! “The skin starts showing the age, the glow might start fading, the tightness and firmness on the skin starts to feel the change. Expectations begin to hover in a self-assessment procedure and also by your near and dear ones,” Gul said. But the people “who are stable in their lives don’t really realise much of these things. But the ones who haven’t been able to establish themselves go through this phase more than the others,” she adds. Critically-acclaimed actress Vidya Balan, 32, proudly says that “turning 30 has been good” for her. And why not? She did two of her best works – “Paa” and “Ishqiya” only after she touched 30. According to Samir Parikh, consultant psychiatrist at Max Healthcare, “the turning 30 anxiety is a psychological fear which people let grow on them”. “The transition that a human being goes through is a constant change and requires self-orientation from time to time. Transition happens at every stage – from a child to a teenager to an adult; the concern of settling down, balancing work and family are a few worries that people at the age of 30 begin to feel. But it’s not a generic statement and is present in men as well,” Parikh said. If the issue isn’t such a big deal, one wonders why Alankrita Srivastava chose the subject for her directorial debut? “With turning 30, one starts to feel the pressure of life and people feel loaded with responsibilities, especially in the urban milieu,” said Srivastava, who assisted filmmaker Prakash Jha on films like “Gangaajal” and “Raajneeti”. “Usually people in rural settings are settled in their lives with their family, work, and just have an aim to earn more and live a happy life. But in urban settings, we are so disorganised. Women are not married, might be unemployed, they have no permanent accommodation at times and on top of it the physical changes start worrying you….so it is something to be anxious about,” she explained. Parikh advises it’s best to be prepared to deal with any and every age. “Preparation is a constant process. There is no specific age when an individual needs to start preparing himself or herself mentally for the changes that come with turning 30. A responsible person always stays ready on their toes and plans the next five years in advance,” he said. He also suggested five things one should consider for a constant, easy flow in the graph of life. “Remain calm; keep yourself occupied; set new goals; talk to people and don’t go in a hibernation mode; and last, but not the least, enjoy yourself to the fullest. Take care of these things in full spirit,” Parikh added. So, as late American comedian Jack Benny rightly said: “Age is strictly a case of mind over matter. If you don’t mind, it doesn’t matter.”
Himesh Turning an Actor?
Himesh Reshammiya is a busy man. After making a rocking start to the year 2006 with hits like 'Humko Deewana Kar Gaye', '36 China Town', 'Aksar', 'Tom, Dick and Harry', 'Hera Pheri', 'Chupke Chupke' and 'Ahista Ahista' his magic waned a bit in 'Anthony Kaun Hai', 'Rocky' and 'Dil Diya Hai'. And then he went for a month long concert tour to US which are being called as hugely successful. The latest buzz on the man-with-the-cap is that he is all set to make a Big Announcement. MusicMazaa had earlier reported as to how full page adds had appeared in all the national dailies about Reshammiya making a big announcement. If the rumour mill is to be believed then Himesh is all set to launch his acting career with an international project backed by super players in the entertainment world. It's being said that Himesh will make a formal announcement before he leaves for his concerts in UK by the end of this month. Himesh turning an actor! Sounds interesting. MusicMazaa will keep you updated on Himesh's big plans.

"'Shoebite' is turning out to be huge" - Jimmy Sheirgill
After 'A Wednesday', Jimmy Sheirgill is willing to forget the string of box office non-performers that he has been a part of in the last few months, most recently been 'Hastey Hastey'. However, though he had commercial failures like 'Strangers' (which he still calls as his best film since 'Yahaan' - rightly so!), 'Choddon Naa Yaar', 'Victoria No. 203', 'Raqeeb', 'Delhii Heights', 'Rehguzar' and 'Bas Ek Pal', one common factor that always stayed on was the appreciation that kept coming in. With the tag of Bollywood's one of the 'most under rated performers' in the recent times being bestowed upon him, Jimmy Sheirgill is now taking it slow and primarily concentrating on working in far more prestigious projects. Of course, 'Shoebite' is one of them. "What a pleasure working with someone like Amitabh Bachchan", exclaims Jimmy Sheirgill who is one of the major protagonists of 'Shoebite' apart from Big B and Sarika, "This is the third time I am working with him after 'Mohabbatein' and 'Eklavya - The Royal Guard'. It was great sharing a common frame with him then and it's the same even today." One always sensed that coming from Shoojit Sircar, the man who made his debut with small budgeted 'Yahaan' (again starring Jimmy Sheirgill), 'Shoebite' too would be set on a small canvas. How far is that true? "Which world are you living in", says Jimmy with mock despair, "We are talking about a multi crore film here. And it is not just expenses which is making 'Shoebite' huge. You have to look at the way Shoojit and UTV Motion Pictures, my film's producers, are going all out to set it up as one of the most talked about films when it releases early 2009." Oh really? "Exactly. The film shows the journey of the man played by Mr. Bachchan and how he traverses the entire country from Manali to Kanyakumari. In fact we are shooting the film on the same pattern as well. Sometimes for a single day shoot of the film, we have traveled two days just to reach the location. I have never traveled so much for a film and since Shoojit wants to given authenticity to his frames, he is picking up the right locations, seasons and setting for each and every scene in the film", Jimmy goes on to add. Coming with a tagline of 'A Journey of Self Discovery', 'Shoebite' also stars Dia Mirza and has music by Shantanu Moitra.
Daisy Shah fine with turning sensuous, evil for 'Hate Story 3'
"Jai Ho" actress Daisy Shah, who is currently shooting for the sensuous franchise "Hate Story's" third instalment, says she doesn't have any apprehensions about turning sensuous and evil for the film. "Actors shouldn't have any limitations, is what I've heard and learnt. So if you are playing a character, you are that character. So if it's the film's requirement to turn sensuous, it's fine. If it's to turn evil, fine," said Daisy when asked about her character in "Hate Story 3" at media persons at her friend Elli Avram's birthday bash. Daisy had earlier played Salman Khan's love interest in her debut "Jai Ho", a role of a sweet and nice girl. About her character in "Hate Story 3", she said: "I won't be able to reveal much, but all I can say is that this character is completely different to the character I played in 'Jai Ho'." Daisy said that the film will release by the end of the year. "Hate Story 3" also stars Sharman Joshi, Karan Singh Grover as male leads while Zarine Khan and Daisy will be raising the temperatures with their hotness. The film is being directed by Vishal Pandya and is written by Vikram Bhatt, releasing under the banner of Bhushan Kumar's T-Series. Both the previous parts were successful and were popular for the erotic scenes against the backdrop of a revenge story.
Sanju hopes 'EMI' to be a turning point
Sanjay Dutt is eagerly awaiting the response to the forthcoming flick 'EMI'. The veteran actor's added excitement is due to him playing a real-life part for the first time in his career. He has given life to a role of a recovery agent and as part of getting to know his character well even consulted the person on whom his character was based. Sanjay say that he has entered a stage in his career where he wants to experiment with different roles which he has not tried out before. He now has a special preference for real life based characters after being fully satisfied with the experience of being Sattar Bhai in 'EMI' which according to Sanju has turned out to be really good. The baba of Bollywood also hopes that the comedy film going to hit the screens on Friday will prove to be lucky for its producer Suneil Shetty whose production company now desperately wants to hit the bull's eye with 'EMI' due to the disastrous performance of the film 'Mission Istaanbul'.
