Akshaya in 'Uliyin Osai'

After a sensuous debut in 'Kalabha Kadhalan', Akshaya was waiting for a right break. Thankfully she has managed to grab the right opportunity in 'Uliyin Osai'. Akshaya has been cast to play a prominent role in 'Uliyin Osai', which is based on a novel penned by Chief Minister M Karunanidhi. She plays Muthunagai, a Classical dancer who has a major say in the movie. Says Akshaya, "I was speechless with surprise when they approached me to act in the movie. I was urged to be part of 'Uliyin Osai' when I was shooting for a Telugu film. Since childhood, I had been learning Bharathanatyam. It has come handy for me now. Director Ilavenil helped me get my act right. Vineeth was a talented co-artiste and shooting with him was a great experience'.

Kalaignar guides Uliyin Osai team

In spite of his busy schedule Chief Minister M Karunanidhi is managing time to pen the script for 'Uliyin Osai'. He wants that the movie to be presented in such a way to remind the times of Chola Kings. Director Ilavenil says that, 'The CM has been giving us suggestions and guiding us to make the film in a realistic manner.' 'Even at this old age, Kalaignar never gets tired and is as active as a youngster,' says Ilavenil. The movie stars Vineeth, Keerthi Chawla and Akshaya in lead roles. The music is scored by Ilayaraja. The director and the team are brimming with confidence that, with Karunanidhi's able guidance, they could come up with a quality product, he assures.

MK in Ulliyin Osai

Chief Minister M Karunanidhi's story 'Ulliyin Osai' is being made as movie by director Ilavenil. The movie features Vineeth, Akshaya and Keerthy Chawla. Interestingly Karunanidhi watched a special screening of few scenes of 'Ulliyin Osai'. Touched by the scenes, Karunanidhi broke out in tears. Emotionally touched by the way, the scenes were shot, Karunanidhi gave a pat for Ilavenil. Meanwhile, Karunanidhi will present a seven-minute foreword in the movie and those scenes were shot recently.

Chief Minister M Karunanidhi to launch Ulliyin Osai

Ulliyin Osai, the movie which has story and dialogues by the Chief Minister M Karunanidhi will go to floors on 6 October. Ilavenil makes his debut as director. The film will be launched at Prasad Studios on 6 Oct. Because the story and dialogues are by him and because Ilavenil is his friend, the Chief Minister is participating in the function. Uliyin Osai is a historical film with the times of Raja Raja Chola as background. Sarath Babu plays the role of Raja Raja Chola and Vineeth is the hero. The film has two heroines, Keerti Chawla and Akshaya. Music is by Ilayaraja.

CM, Rajini, Kamal watch 'Ulliyin Osai'

Chief Minister M Karunanidhi, along with 150 special invitees including Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan watched 'Ulliyin Osai' on Tuesday, a film based on a story the Chief Minister had written four decades ago. Rajini, when asked about the movie, said, 'Story, screen play and dialogues are superb. It is a fantastic love story. Excellent.' Asked if there was any particular dialogue that he liked, he said that there were far too many. Praising Karunanidhi, Kamal said, 'He had worked on the project despite all his duties as Chief Minister. I have a lot to learn from him.' This film proves that both Kalaignar's stories and art are timeless, said director Bharathirajaa. K S Ravikumar, fresh from the success of 'Dasavatharam', said there were so many twists and unexpected turns in the movie in the second half and that kept him very interested and absorbed. 'The songs are very good and so is the manner in which they have been filmed. I did not expect such a touching movie,' he said. The film is based on Karunanidhi's short story 'Saarapallam Samundi'. Produced by Thiruvottiyur SP Murugesan, the film has Keerthi Chawla, Suja, Vineeth and Sarath Babu in lead roles. Ilavenil makes his debut as director while Ilayaraja has handled the music.
