Water in Top-5 list for OSCARS

After 'Lagaan', another film made by a director of Indian origin and narrating an Indian tale has been short listed for the OSCARS. Edging past 'Rang De Basanti' in the first cut of nominations and now in the Top-5 list of 'Best Foreign Language Film', Deepa Mehta's 'Water', an entry from Canada, has reached the last leg of the Oscars. The films pitted against 'Water' are Days of Glory (Algeria), After The Wedding (Denmark), The Lives of Others (Germany) and Pan's Labyrinth (Mexico). Ironically, in India the film is still awaiting for release. There is a good probability that it would be hitting the screens here on February 23rd. In the category of 'Best Motion Picture', the films that have been nominated are Babel, Little Miss Sunshine, The Departed, Letters from Iwo Jima and The Queen. The directors in the shortlist are Martin Scorsese ' The Departed, Clint Eastwood ' Letters From Iwo Jima, Stephen Frears ' The Queen, Alejandro I±¡rritu ' Babel and Paul Greengrass - United 93.

Waterborne distributed online

Google is the best-known search engine for one and all. This company is all set to release and distribute a film online. The film is Ben Reiki's Waterborne. It is a film about terrorist attacks on the water supply of Los Angeles. It is a futuristic thriller and the first of its kinds to be released and distributed online. What is also nice about the film is that Shabana Azmi- the ace Indian actress is playing a pivotal role in the film. She is very excited about the film. This she feels will start a movement that will give voice to independent filmmakers. It is getting practically impossible for small time filmmakers to get theatrical releases. If this system works then, one can't imagine the highs to which independent filmmakers would go. Guerilla filmmaking will have a new space for themselves and many young talents will get a voice of their own.
