More news →Well done Abba is a tongue in cheek film Minissha Lamba
Working with Shyam Benegal is almost every serious actor’s wish and when actress Minissha Lamba got a chance to do so, she says, she could be “nothing but perfect”. She terms their film “Well Done Abba” an “educative trip”. “Much before beginning to shoot for the film, I was sure about one thing that I couldn’t let Shyam sir down. Here I was working with a man who has been directing for 35 years now so I had to be nothing but perfect with my performance,” Minissha said. With such a senior person calling the shots, wasn’t it intimidating? “Honestly, it wasn’t intimidating because Shyam sir is a pro in working with actors. He knows how to take care of them and extract the best out of them. This is why I didn’t even know how an entire month passed by and the shooting got over. “More than him calling the shots, what was really unnerving was the kind of immense pressure that I had put myself into. For me, every day was a challenge as I had to give my very best,” she said. The film has been narrated in a comic and ironic vein. It is an engaging story of Armaan Ali (Boman Irani), a driver working in Mumbai. He takes leave for a month to find a husband for his teenage daughter (Minissha), who lives in a small locality close to Hyderabad. Armaan Ali returns to work only after three months. His young employer wants to sack him but is persuaded to know the reason why Armaan got delayed. Fascinated by the experience of working with Shyam Benegal, Minissha added: “‘Well Done Abba’ is told in a very simple, fun, light-hearted way. In any case, cinema is the reflection of society and in the same mould, this film too is quite tongue-in-cheek.” The film also stars Sameer Dattani (as Minissha’s love interest), Ravi Kishan, Ila Arun, Salim Ghouse, Sonali Kulkarni, Rajit Kapoor, Yashpal Sharma and Ravi Jhankal. “With such an ensemble cast in the film, you have to be on your toes all the time. There were some scenes in particular that were quite challenging and I didn’t really know where I was and what I was doing. But, as I said, Shyam sir gets it going for his actors at the end of the day. I can only say that working in ‘Well Done Abba’ was an educative trip for me and I only came back a little more well-versed in cinema,” said Minissha. A BIG Pictures production, the film has music by Shantanu Moitra. Earlier titled “Abba Ka Kuan”, this Shyam Benegal movie is set to release March 26.

ALL WELL THAT ENDS VILL-A
Sanjay Dutt surely has proved his musical talent in the past by lending his voice alongside Asha Bhosle for her album and for the movie Zinda alongside the Strings Band. Dutt has now lent his physical presence to Hansal Mehta's thriller Woodstock Villa. The movie will see Sikandar Kher and Neha Oberoi making their debuts. Sanjay Dutt will appear to enact a song performed by the band Aryan. Director Sanjay Gupta claims that the song has now turned into the movie's highlight. 'When Sanju performs a song it's not just a star lending his name. He feels the lyrics, their pain and passion and projects them on screen. That's what makes the sound so special.' It seems that Sanjay Dutt was moved to tears by the evocative lyrics and looks like all's well between Gupta and Sanjay.

"Don is doing quite well" - Shah Rukh Khan
It is rare to see stars to come out and announce to the world that their films are doing quite well. It is further rare to see someone of the stature of SRK doing so. But then even the superstars change rules when 99% of media is hell bent of proclaiming their films a washout, when the reality is far from true. By now it is quite clear that 'Don' is dong exceedingly well in both overseas and India and though the reviews for the film haven't been too flattering, audience has by and large given this 'Don-with-a-twist' a Thumbs Up. No wonder King Khan is elated. "It has been 5 days since the film released and the collections are out for everyone to have a look. There are hardly any centers where the film is still not doing 100% collections and for a film that was panned on day one, it is heartening to see the collections sustain", he said with his tongue firmly in cheek in a TV interview. On being asked about the future prospects of 'Don', he said that he had full belief that his Muslim brothers would further make the film a big money spinner since it's Idd time and everyone is in a festive mood. He also added with a smile that since most of the country gets a bonus during this season, they love to get entertained and what better way to be entertained than watch a film with a family. He also had his reasoning when asked about the harsh reviews and some negative publicity that the film had garnered. He said, "See, I have now around 20 years experience behind me when it comes to TV and films and hence I have got used to such feedback. Anyways my films have always garnered 'mixed reviews'. I think intelligent people haven't really jumped with joy by watching 'Don' but those who just want to have fun without worrying too much about anything else; they are indeed enjoying themselves." SRK was at his characteristic best when asked to choose his favorite between Chandra Barot's 'Don' and Farhan Akhtar's 'Don'. He said, "When Farhan, Riteish and me decided to make 'Don', the idea was simple - to present something to today's generation which they have missed from the past. In this way, for the purpose of a remake, Barot's 'Don' is our favorite. But when it comes to doing something for the current generation to give them a contemporary film that they would enjoy most, Farhan's 'Don' is our favorite."
