Why Vidya Balan loves this time of the year

Actress Vidya Balan says she loves back-to-back festival period starting from Ganesh Chaturthi in September to Dussehra in late October to the ongoing Diwali season. "I really like it when these festivals come one after the other. The climate is also quite good starting from rainy season during Ganapati to the hot climate during Navratri and the beginning of winters during Diwali. It's just that the transition is lovely." “I always love this part of the year. There are lights hung everywhere, people are going for shopping, there is an energy, enthusiasm and hope among everyone," Vidya said in an interview. When asked about her Diwali plans, she said her husband-producer Siddharth Roy Kapur is out of town and hence she would celebrate it with her family. "Every year, we have a simple celebration for Diwali and it's always a family affair. We go to the temple, wear new clothes and go to give clothes and gifts to near and dear ones. We spend a lot of time wishing each other on phones through messages, and in the evening we light diyas,” she said. Vidya also says that she lights just one “phooljhadi” as she's not fond of firecrackers. "Diwali is one of the most widely celebrated festivals in the country crossing regional as well as religious boundaries. The celebration is spread over numerous days with events such as 'Dhanteras', 'Lakshmi Pooja', and 'Bhau-beej' ensuring the festive spirit stays over few days,” she said. “There is a lot of hustle and bustle as there are many people visiting us, and that's where the fun lies. The true wishes from the heart emerge and Diwali is just about wishing each other well," she said. "I'd like to wish all viewers the best wishes for Diwali. I hope that light is present in your lives forever. Have a safe Diwali and Happy New Year," added Vidya. The actress was last seen in the romantic film “Hamari Adhuri Kahani”.

"Why were Yashraj making blockbusters last year and failures this year?" - Ram Gopal Varma

I always find it very strange the tendency of people to emphasise on whose idea it is rather than the idea itself. I for one have been credited many times for innovative ideas and also discovering so many talents both in actors and technicians. But did it occur to anyone what I might have thought about those ideas and the talents at that point of time? The fact is that I never thought anything of anybody or anything or thought everything of everybody and every thing. The only reason I took Anurag Kashyap in Satya was nothing to do with my perception of his talent, but it was because he was the first writer to approach me after I decided to make that film. And later on he got Saurabh Shukla to join in as a co-writer. Why I credited Saurabh Shukla's name first in the titles of satya was because he was older in age than Anurag. People thought Anurag was the main guy among the two because I continued to work with Anurag and not Saurabh. The reason I did that was because Saurabh got married and he did not have as much time as Anurag to hang out with me. Similarly I did not think that Shimit Amin was more talented than Prawal Raman just because Shimit made Ab Tak Chappan and Prawal made Gayab. On the contrary I believe that given the material of Ab Tak Chappan Prawal would have made a better film and given the material of Gayab Shimit would have made it worse. I made Satya and Daud back-to-back at the same time. So who is the real me? Anurag writes 'Satya' and 'Main Aisa Hi Hoon' and makes 'Black Friday' and No Smoking'. So who is the real Anurag? Likewise why would Rakesh Mehra make 'Aks' first and 'Rang De Basanti' next? Why did Ashutosh waste his time and talent on 'Baazi' before he could make a 'Lagaan' and why were Yashraj making blockbusters last year and failures this year? The fact is that each and every one of us here are as good or bad as the material we take up at that particular time. The rest of the hype is in the media's, the industry's and the audiences mind. Fair enough the material I or anyone picks up surely is an individual choice but without knowing what factors affected that choice at that particular time, one cannot take it for granted that someone is very talented. That is just being ignorant about what goes behind the making of a film. In effect I am saying if Anaurag came to me for Daud, we would have made as bad a film and if some other writer was in Satya it would have been as good. I am not taking away the credit off him or Saurabh's or Sandeep Chowta's or the various actors and technicians of that film. All I am saying is that we all shined because of the material I picked up by chance and 'chance' is the operative word here. If I precisely knew what material to pick up why would I be also making bad films? And what did all those actors and technicians of the film do before and since Satya released 10 years back? All you have to do is to list down the works of Anurag, Saurabh, Manoj Bajpai, Sandeep Chowta, Mazhar Kamran the cameraman etc including myself for you to see my point. In Satya an idea just fell in place. Every one connected should just be happy with it and forget it, and be thankful that nobody realizes that a good film or a bad film can happen as random as that.

Why Shael chose Gaurav Dayal for Aitbaar?

Shael's latest private album 'Aitbaar' has hit the stands and has majority of it's songs composed by newcomer Gaurav Dayal. What made him entrust the responsibility of composing to a relative newcomer? This is what he says. "When I commenced work on my new album, there were a lot of questions storming my mind regarding the kind of sound and specifically lyrics as I feel that meaningful songs and lyrics connect faster with people's hearts. On my search to find the right people to be associated with my album, I met this young and energetic music composer from Delhi by the name of Gaurav Dayal. I will not be wrong by saying that he holds tremendous talent in him and he gives his heart and soul to whatever he does. It was easy for me to share my thoughts about the direction this album should take and Gaurav understood it instantly. The entire team including the lyricists, backing vocals and engineers has worked really hard to bring out the best production quality from this album."

Why is RGV lying low on his films?

"'Sholay' would be made at all costs even if Gods ask me not to make it". "There is going to be 'Sarkar II' soon". "A commitment is in place for making one more film with Big B when works gets over on the projects underway". These are some of the many announcements by Ram Gopal Verma in last few months when quizzed about his plans for films starring Amitabh Bachchan. In addition one keeps hearing about some of his other projects with others actors [e.g.: Fardeen Khan-Esha Deol-Isha Kopikar starrer 'Darling'] every now and then. Amidst all this important piece of information, one can't help but ask one question - "What happens to a film for which the shooting is completed and is ready for release?" And by the way this one stars Amitabh Bachchan too! We are talking about 'Nishabd'! Right from the inception stage the movie was in news. Whether it was the 'bold' theme of the film, acceptance-denial-acceptance cycle of apparent source being 'Lolita', introduction of hot'n'bold'spicy Zia Khan as the teen female lead, snippets distribution into the media, interviews from the cast and crew to an eventual completion in record time - just about everything about the film kept it in news till about a couple of months back. And since then there has been an absolute silence. In fact all one hears is 'Ramg Gopal Verma Ke Sholay', it's casting hassles, date hassles, production hassles, copyright hassles, Big B's looks being unveiled, his scorpion stick being an item in itself, actors coming in and going out and so on and so forth. What one doesn't hear about is 'Nishabd' that was supposed to have already arrived by now! So what has happened wrong? Or is there something really wrong? No one knows! But what one knows is that suddenly the project has been kept out of news completely with no sound bytes to the media about its progress. And guess what, we have not yet talked about 'Go' and 'Shabri' which made quite some news when launched and were followed by promos/stills feed to the media while mid-way into the shoot. Starring Nisha Kothari and Isha Kopikar in the lead respectively, these films seem to have gone further down the priority list of RGV with his current fascination of 'Sholay' remake consuming most of his energy. One wishes that the wait proves to be worth it with RGV coming out with flying colors with his 'Sholay' remake. After all, there is a definite element of trust that one has lost since subjected to his last release 'Shiva'. For his and his audience sake, one expects the master storyteller to strike back in a style, come up with a winning stroke, revive all his films that have been lying down for a life to be breathed into them and then start his productions afresh by bringing on the variety that he has been famous for around a decade now!
