He picked up his camera to capture nitty-gritty of political issues with films like "Yahaan" and "Madras Cafe", traversing to slice-of-life canvas of Bollywood with "Vicky Donor" and "Piku". Shoojit Sircar's cinematic ideas have left film buffs asking for more. But the director says he is in no hurry to make movies, and is at present "working on a couple of ideas". "I am not in a hurry to make a film. If my script is ready, then I am in a hurry to make a film. But generally speaking, I am not in a hurry to make a film. I would love to work with a lot of actors but if the script demands. It all depends on the script," Sircar told on the sidelines of Film Bazaar here. He added that he is "working on a couple of subjects, but I cannot share the ideas at the moment". Sircar had a successful year at the box office as he framed some heart-warming moments of a father and daughter in "Piku" with stars like Amitabh Bachchan and Deepika Padukone donning Bengali avatar for the roles. And Irrfan Khan fitting right in the plot with his flair for acting with a zing of liveliness. Sircar asserts that he was skeptical about the genre before plunging into it, but now is in love with it and is looking forward to helming more such kind of films. "I would love to make a film in the genre. I have started enjoying them. I never thought I can make a film like 'Piku'. But I was comfortable making it and now I will carry on making films in that genre," he said. Sircar ended up pocketing three National Awards, including the Best Film for his take on sperm donation through 2012 film "Vicky Donor". And the director notes that success for all of his films has come as a surprise package. "Numbers at the box office don't bother me as I never thought that any of the films I had made will make money, but they did and that is why numbers don't bother me. They made money on their own." "I just thought they will recover half the cost. All the film's success was by chance," said Sircar, who did his schooling from Kolkata and college in Delhi before heading to Mumbai for pursuing a career in filmmaking. Sircar was attending Film Bazaar, held alongside International Film Festival of India, for the first time. And he says it was an experience of a lifetime, adding that now he knows where to head to pitch scripts. "It was a beautiful experience. I met so many people from the industry and I have never been exposed to foreign sales people or technicians. And the festival circuit people are different. It was a good learning lesson. "I met a lot of newcomers who are pitching their films. I had no idea that you have to pitch the films like this so, next time I will also pitch my film when I get stuck," he said. There were many ideas that struck the right chord with Sircar as he noted that "some definitely were interesting and some brave ideas, but let's see at least it has initiated the discussion". He shared his inclination towards treating his work as a mirror to reflect style, craft and depth of world cinema's greatest auteur Satyajit Ray's work at a session held in Film Bazaar. But when asked if he will ever try to remake some of Ray's epic work, Sircar steered clear of the idea to save himself from looking dumb. "I cannot touch Ray's films. I don't want to be spoilsport and make a dumb film. I think he was far ahead as a filmmaker and I think we can never go close to his craft, style and his depth. So I will never attempt a remake as I don't want to make fun of myself," he said. Currently, other than "Agra Ka Daabra", which stars Ayushmann Khurrana and Taapsee Pannu, and "1911" with John Abraham as the lead actor, Sircar is churning out some "political thrillers" ideas. He said that the film will not be based on the current scenario, but "past political things".
"'Shoebite' is turning out to be huge" - Jimmy Sheirgill
After 'A Wednesday', Jimmy Sheirgill is willing to forget the string of box office non-performers that he has been a part of in the last few months, most recently been 'Hastey Hastey'. However, though he had commercial failures like 'Strangers' (which he still calls as his best film since 'Yahaan' - rightly so!), 'Choddon Naa Yaar', 'Victoria No. 203', 'Raqeeb', 'Delhii Heights', 'Rehguzar' and 'Bas Ek Pal', one common factor that always stayed on was the appreciation that kept coming in. With the tag of Bollywood's one of the 'most under rated performers' in the recent times being bestowed upon him, Jimmy Sheirgill is now taking it slow and primarily concentrating on working in far more prestigious projects. Of course, 'Shoebite' is one of them. "What a pleasure working with someone like Amitabh Bachchan", exclaims Jimmy Sheirgill who is one of the major protagonists of 'Shoebite' apart from Big B and Sarika, "This is the third time I am working with him after 'Mohabbatein' and 'Eklavya - The Royal Guard'. It was great sharing a common frame with him then and it's the same even today." One always sensed that coming from Shoojit Sircar, the man who made his debut with small budgeted 'Yahaan' (again starring Jimmy Sheirgill), 'Shoebite' too would be set on a small canvas. How far is that true? "Which world are you living in", says Jimmy with mock despair, "We are talking about a multi crore film here. And it is not just expenses which is making 'Shoebite' huge. You have to look at the way Shoojit and UTV Motion Pictures, my film's producers, are going all out to set it up as one of the most talked about films when it releases early 2009." Oh really? "Exactly. The film shows the journey of the man played by Mr. Bachchan and how he traverses the entire country from Manali to Kanyakumari. In fact we are shooting the film on the same pattern as well. Sometimes for a single day shoot of the film, we have traveled two days just to reach the location. I have never traveled so much for a film and since Shoojit wants to given authenticity to his frames, he is picking up the right locations, seasons and setting for each and every scene in the film", Jimmy goes on to add. Coming with a tagline of 'A Journey of Self Discovery', 'Shoebite' also stars Dia Mirza and has music by Shantanu Moitra.

Bring home THE LEGEND - SRK
Shahrukh Khan had a good 2006 with both 'Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna' and 'Don' making pot loads of money. Now as a fitting farewell at the end of the year, there is a gift for his fans in the form of a musical treat called "The Legend - Shah Rukh Khan". Comprising of 19 of his superhit tracks, the title comes in a DVD and VCD version and is being made available at an astonishingly low price. All the songs belong to Yash Raj Films either as their production or distribution. Starting from 'Tu Mere Saamne' [Darr], other notable videos are 'Tujhe Dekha To Yeh', 'Ruk Ja O Dil Deewane', 'Ruk Ja O Dil Deewane', 'Mehndi Lagake Rakhna', 'Ho Gaya Hai Tujhko To' [DDLJ], 'Arre Re Arre', 'Bholi Si Soorat', 'Koi Ladki Hai', 'Dil To Pagal Hai', 'Le Gayi Le Gayi' [Dil To Pagal Hai], 'Humko Huminse', 'Zinda Rehti Hain' [Mohabbatein], 'Kyon Hawa', 'Main Yahaan Hoon', 'Yeh Hum Aa Gaye Hain Kahaan', 'Do Pal' [Veer-Zaara], 'Mitwa', 'Tumhi Dekho Naa' and 'Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna' [Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna].
Arshad is very spontaneous, says Minissha
The angelic beauty Minissha Lamba got a raw deal in Madhur Bhandarkar's 'Corporate' where she had a miniscule role. She is willing to put behind the setback and concentrating all her energies on Raj Kauhsal's 'Anthony Kaun Hai'. Co-starring Sanjay Dutt and Arshad Warsi, Minisha admits that she learnt to shed her inhibitions before the camera and think on her feet from Arshad. According to her Arshad got into the skin of the character with so much zeal that he constantly improvised dialogue during scenes and threw them at her impromptu. 'Arshad would say dialogues which were nowhere in the script and I was left wondering what to do. At first, I was a bit taken aback but they sounded so spontaneous that it later became a sort of mind game for both of us. I would like to match his lines with my own dialogues and responses. I'd like to think I turned out pretty spontaneous too,' she says. Having started her acting career with Sujit Sarkar's poetic 'Yahaan' with Jimmy Shergil, Lamba caught the eye of the film pundits with her understated performance. Even in 'Corporate' the scene where she brings her lower middle class parents to a five star hotel to have lunch saw her enacting her part with confident gumption. It seems the cine goers are going to see a lot more of Minisha Lamba in the days to come. She will be watched with anticipated speculation as to whether she matches up to the rigorous filmi life.
Munnabhai's Music Disappoints
Rajkumar Hirani's 'Lage Raho Munnabhai' is one of the most eagerly awaited films of the year. A sequel to the super hit 'Munnabhai MBBS' the crackling chemistry between Sanjay Dutt and Arshad Warsi is one of the finest camaraderie-teams in Hindi cinema. Abbas Tyrewala's witty dialogues were applauded for the ingenuous usage of the local idiom with a more poignant emotion. The music of 'LRM' was released recently and its CD cover is more interesting than the music score. It has a Stamp with Sanju, Arshad and Vidya Balan perched atop a mo-bike while contours of Gandhi ji are dotted in the sky. There's a seal from Munnabhai proclaiming: Apun Ka Gaana No.1 written upside down. While Anu Malik's situational music picked up after 'Munnabhai MBBS' became a rage, Shantanu Moitra's music score will also be depending heavily on the visuals of the film. There's nothing outstanding in any of the songs. And except for an innovative 'Samjho Ho Hi Gaya' (Where Sanju and Arshad take to the mike too), all the other songs are just about ok. In fact one of the numbers 'Pal Pal'.Pal Pal' is a blatant copy of Cliff Richard classic 'Theme For a Dream'. After the magnetic appeal of 'Parineeta' and 'Yahaan', the music of 'LRM' is a let down from Moitra whose strength lies in melody and not parody numbers.
