A lively show

Raj TV's mega musical event to celebrate the platinum jubilee of Tamil cinema in Chennai on Sunday attracted a huge audience including a host of film personalities.

Titled 'Tamil Cinema 75', the event took the audience down memory lane through a sound and light show at the Nehru Indoor stadium.

Raj TV organized the grand musical show showcasing the best of film songs from the bygone eras to the current hit numbers.

The giants of Tamil cinema were all there - composers M S Viswanathan and T K Ramamurthy; playback singers T M Soundarajan, P B Srinivas, L R Eswari, actors Manorama, Kaka Radhakrishnan, among others.

A 15-minute documentary was screened that gave a snapshot of Tamil cinema with notable milestones and legends that shaped the filmdom. The pioneering efforts of producers like Gemini Vasan, Nagi Reddy and AVM Chettiar were also recalled which laid a solid foundation for rapid growth of Tamil cinema from 1940s, both in dealing with wide subjects and technical progress in creating a film. The docu-film ended with special profiles on Kamal Haasan and Rajinikanth.
