'Dasavatharam' still reigns supreme

Kamal Haasan's 'Dasavatharam' has entered the fifth week of its release and is still going strong and secure at the box office. The crowds are still thronging to the theatres in both rural and urban centers.

Directed by K S Ravikumar, the movie featuring Kamal Haasan in ten different roles has won the admiration of the masses in spite of mixed reviews. 'Dasavatharam' is raking in the moolah in right way and Oscar Ravichandran should be smiling all the way to the bank.

Close on 'Dasavatharam's' heels are two films which hit the screens recently. Sundar C's 'Ayudham Seivom', the maiden production venture of Pyramid Saimira and debutant Sasikumar's 'Subramaniapuram'.

'Ayudham Seivom', a commercial masala, is a mix of action, romance and comedy and is targeted at B and C centers. Into its third week of release, the movie is doing decent business.

'Subramaniapuram' featuring Jai, Samudhirakani, Ganja Karuppu among others, is a retro classic. Set in rural Madurai, the movie has an off-beat theme. Sasikumar garners attention, for he came out of director Bala and Ameer's school of direction.

Much was expected from Bharath's 'Muniyandi Vilangiyal Moonram Aandu', directed by Thirumurugan. Unfortunately, it could satisfy the tastes of the film-buffs as it managed a lukewarm response at the box office so far. The lack of the drama element is a major handicap for the movie.

In rural centers, the Vineeth starrer 'Uliyin Osai', which has story and dialogues by M Karunanidhi, is doing good business. The movie has managed a good review. It is based on story titled Sarapallam Samundi, written by Karunanidhi.

The Vijay starrer 'Kuruvi', Jayam Ravi's 'Santosh Subramaniam', Parthiban starrer 'Vallamai Tharayo' and Dhanush's 'Yaradi Nee Mohini' are also in the fray.

However the coming weeks would be more crucial. Rajnikanth's magnum opus 'Kuselan' is expected to hit the screens very soon. Not far behind are the films 'Kuselan', 'Sathyam', 'Dhaam Dhoom' and 'Sakkarakatti'.
