Filmfare Awards 2009

The avenue, Yash Raj Studios, witnessed a sea of glitter and shine that the tinsel town had splashed around, during the 55th Annual Filmfare Awards. Turned up in their best, Bollywood celebrities gathered to watch the year’s mega event that had been quite a gala affair. The highlight of the night was the hosting jodi – Shah Rukh Khan and Saif Ali Khan – who rode the show fabulously with their comedy timing and one-liner jokes. The evening was doted with striking performances from stars; of which Shahid Kapoor stood out with his tribute number on legendary pop singer Michael Jackson.

Hrithik Roshan, Kajol, Shabana Azmi, Simi Garewal, Madhur Bhandarkar, Sridevi, Boney Kapoor, Deepika Padukone, Dia Mirza, Vidya Balan, Genelia D’souza, Bipasha Basu, Tabu, the 3 Idiots’ team, Padmini Kolhapure, Javed Akhtar – most of the B-town personalities had graced the ceremony with their presence.

Going over to the awards section, Rajkumar Hirani’s ‘3 Idiots’ grabbed most of the top honours. The film won - Best Film Award, Best Director (Rajkumar Hirani), Best Story (Hirani & Abhijat Joshi), Best Screenplay (Hirani & Vidhu Vinod Chopra), Best Dialogue Award.

While Amitabh Bachchan received the Best Actor Award for ‘Paa’, Vidya Balan won Best Actress for the same film.

Here’s a list of the other winners:

Best Music – A. R. Rahman (Delhi-6)

Best Playback Singer (Female) - Rekha Bharadwaj (Genda Phool - Delhi 6) & Kavita Seth (Ik Taara - Wake Up Sid)

Sadly, the event was missing the Shehenshah - Amitabh Bachchan and his family. The first pariwar of Bollywood had boycotted the awards ceremony as a mark of protest against wrong allegations about Aishwarya Rai’s health by a tabloid. The publication, which had given false reports of the actress’s illness, was associated with Filmfare and so the family had refused to attend the award event.
