Lakshmi is one of those rare performers who can strike a chord in the viewer's hearts with her hard-hitting portrayal of characters. She bagged roles of substance and worked for some memorable films including Sila Nerangalil Sila Manithargal (1975), Oru Nadigai Natakam Parkiral (1978), Sirai and many other films, all of which created indelible impressions for the themes they carried and the performances Lakshmi came up with.
Lakshmi has done over 500 films in all the South Indian languages, Hindi and Sinhalese. However, majority of the films were in Tamil and Telugu.
It was not just her performances, it was also her choice of roles and varied knowledge that set Lakshmi a class apart. Being the voracious reader that she is, Lakshmi was the undisputed choice for hosting a live reality show which basically required intelligence and presence of mind, for a Television channel.
