Filmmaker Onir reveals his desire to adapt Shakespeare's Hamlet with a gay protagonist, a project he couldn't pursue due to financial and societal constraints. He plans to explore alternative sexuality in a future film.
Director Onir after My Brother Nikhil wanted a gay Hamlet in his adaptation of Shakespeare's Hamlet. But Onir is unable to do so because then his financiers would have backed out and Indians don't accept homosexuality so well. But Onir will definitely make a movie on alternative sexuality next year.
Currently he is busy with the release of Bas Ek Pal starring Juhi Chawla, Urmila Matondkar, Sanjay Suri, Jimmy Shergill and Rehan Engineer. The film also talks about alternative sexuality and about five people and how their lives intertwine during one incident.
