Pt. Hari Prasad Chaurasia composes for a Film again

Smita Kudva, who trained under legendary filmmaker Satjayit Ray and assisted Ismail Merchant, is making her debut as a feature film director with 'Magic Loom Girl', the filming for which will commence early next year.

Pandit Hari Prasad Chaurasia, who composes music for the film, has already commenced work at his Gurukul Studios. 'Magic Loom Girl' is an honest and passionate attempt at aesthetic and sensitive story-telling. A contemporary rural socio-economic background and simple-real characters and motives lend authenticity to the drama,' says Kudva.

Smita has directed 30 hours of television work for Star Plus Asia and also has helmed super hit music videos. She has written for leading Indian dailies and compiled the in-flight music for Air India between 1988 and 1993. She has, from childhood, trained in Indian Classical music and grew up amidst legends in Indian music, travelling worldwide.

Her short film 'Lotus Indigo' a thirteen minute film on Pandit Hari Prasad Chaurasia was screened at the prestigious IFP event in New York recently, as a work in progress. 'Magic Loom Girl' is the story of Shakhambari, a girl believed to have magical hands ' and her journey through pain.

It shows Shakhambari, in search of her own inner resources and in touch with her own Shakti. 'Magic Loom Girl' is the story of Shakhambari's journey through pain. It shows how tragedy can often redefine us and send us into a different level of karmic consciousness. Creatively, 'Magic Loom Girl' is an honest and passionate attempt at aesthetic and sensitive story-telling.
