The talented veteran stage, films and television character artiste Renukamma Murugod (76) known for natural performance died after 10 months prolonged illness in her residence in Bylahongal on Wednesday evening. She leaves behind two sons and two daughters.
A theatre artist turned television and film artist Renukamma Murugod was seen in many films as mother and grand mother in Kannada cinema. Starting from Girish Kasaravalli's 'Krourya' she had a good innings in films.
In Thai Saheba, Veerappa Nayaka, Harake, Shabdavedi, Nammura Mandhara Hoove, Chandra Chakori, Chandramukhi Pranasahki, Prema Raga Hadu Gelathi, Darshan, Ranga SSLC, Arasu, Hoomale, Preethi Eke Bhoomi Melidhe she gave a striking performance.
In Television serials Silli Lalli, Marichike, Moodalamane, Thakadimitha, Muttina Thorana (currently on air) Parvathi, Kathasagara Renukamma Murugod played variety of roles.
When Mahatma Gandhiji came to Belgaum for a cultural program the 13 years young Renuka performed a dance and got appreciation. She started her career on stage at the age of 17 and acted in various roles in 54 years of service to stage, television and cinema.
Hailing from Savadatti taluk Murugodu village in Belgaum started Murugodu Mahantha Shivayogi Natya Sangha. She is the winner of Karnataka Nataka Academy and Gubbi Veeranna award.
