Saroja Devi to be honored

Veteran actress Saroja Devi is one among four great film personalities who will be conferred with 'One Time Award for Life Time Achievement' for services to the Indian film industry.

Commemorating the Diamond Jubilee celebrations of India's 60 years of independence, the central government has come up with this novel way of recognizing India's favorite children.

The other film personalities to be honored on this prestigious occasion are thespian Dileep Kumar, legendary singer Lata Mangeshkar and director, producer Tapan Sinha.

As Tapan Sinha's health is not doing very well at the moment, the organizers have decided to honor him today at his residence in Kolkata. Union minister for information and broadcasting Priyaranjan Das Munshi will do the honors.

Actress Saroja Devi acted in Tamil, Telugu and Malayalam films during her career in the '50s and '60s.

She was a much sought after actress during her time and has paired with M. G. Ramachandran and Sivaji Ganesan in many a film. Known for her demure and sweet way of talking she made many a heart beat a skip with her performances.

Mangeshkar started her singing career in the early '40s as a teenager and went on to rule the roost in the world of playback singing.
