The CM's appraisal of 'Thekathi Ponnu'

By now you all must be familiar with this name 'Thekathi Ponnu'. Yes, it is the serial directed by Bharathiraja, the director who is famous for spinning sensible stories out of village contexts.

It seems that the director was approached by the Dr. Kalainger, the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu when they had planned to bring out Kalainger TV. The director did not have any plans of entering in to the small screen until the CM suggested something like this.

When Dr. Kalainger told him about his plans of starting the new channel, director Bharathirajaa too started to work on his new serial that he was going to make for Kalainger TV. Off to the Southern districts of Tamil Nadu he went to he went to picturize a story centered that had its base in the villages of Tamil Nadu.

Soon, Bharathirajaa was ready with 50 episodes of his new serial titled 'Thekathi Ponnu'. He came back to Chennai and presented the edited version of the serial that he had shot for the approval of the Kalainger.

After watching some parts of the 50-episode serial the Chief Minister asked the director to make some corrections here and there, for which the director consented and made them promptly.

'Thekathi Ponnu' is way different from the usual soaps that we get to see on a daily basis. Director Bharathirajaa has brought the very feel of the village soil in to the serial We are sure you too will be impressed seeing 'Thekathi Ponnu' in your drawing rooms, everyday at 8.30 in the evenings.
