Chief Minister Jayalalithaa, who succumbed to death on Monday, was laid to rest near the premise of her mentor MGR's memorial in Kamaraj Salai. Thousands of followers, party members, and well-wishers took part in her last journey.
Union Minister Venkaiah Naidu, Congress VP Rahul Gandhi, President Pranab Mukerjee and many other took part in the last rites. She was buried with full national honours. Last rites were performed by Amma's brother's son Deepak and her close aide Sasikala.
Born in 1948, Jaya has sworn in as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu four times and has ruled the state for close to 15 years.
