Australia is willing to pay golf superstar Tiger Woods top dollar to return to Melbourne to play in this year’s Australian Masters, officials said.
Woods received an appearance fee of almost US $3 million dollars to play the Masters in November. It was the last tournament he took part in before a sex scandal forced him to quit the greens and seek medical help for his serial womanizing.
The world number one is making a comeback at this week’s US Masters in Augusta, Georgia.
Victoria state Sports Minister James Merlino said Melbourne would welcome Woods back with open arms. He has an open invitation to compete in the Masters at Cheltenham’s Victoria Golf Club November 11-14.
