Suicide car bombing kills 14 in Afghanistan

Fourteen police officers were killed and 19 civilians were injured Wednesday in a suicide car bombing in Afghanistan’s Nangarhar province, 120 km east of Kabul, Xinhua quoted a spokesman for the provincial administration as saying.

“It was a suicide car bombing at around 5 p.m. and in the bloody incident, 14 police officials were martyred, including some police trainers of the police academy in the province,” Ahmad Zia Abdulzai told reporters.

The blast also injured 19 others, all of them are civilians, he said, adding the suicide bomber blew up his explosive-laden car near a police minibus travelling on a road just outside provincial capital Jalalabad.

Earlier, a local police official who declined to be identified said that two suicide bombers targeted police vehicles carrying police academy trainers returning home at around 4.45 p.m. in Behsud district near Jalalabad.
