Ace cinematographer and National Award winner Mankada Ravi Varma has passed way on Monday in Chennai due to Alzheimer’s. He is 84 years old.
He worked with noted film directors like Adoor Gopalakrishnan, Aravindan and PN Menon. He has won two National Awards one for Adoor Gopalakrishnan’s Swayamvaram in 1972 and in 2000 for his documentary Kalamandalam Gopi. A special jury award was also given his own film, Nokkukuthi, which is based on a poem written by Malayalam poet, M Govindan in 1984.
Varma is always been closely attached with cinemas.
