Ananda Krishnan, director of the upcoming film Metro, has requested Regional Censor Board in Chennai to clearly specify as to what basis films are classified and awarded with ‘U’ and ‘A’ certifications.

Ananda Krishnan, who made the Vidharth-Hardika Shetty starrer Aal in 2014, is back with his second venture Metro which has Sirish and Bobby Simha in lead roles. The film, which releases next Friday (24th June) in theatres, has been given an ‘A’ certificate by the Censors. Speaking to newsmen recently, Ananda Krishnan explained how tough it was for him to get a certification from the Censors.

“We titled the film as Metro as the film seeks to explain the chain-snatching and other acts of theft taking place in metros in the country. We knew that we won’t get an ‘U’ certificate the moment when we decided to title the film as Metro; however, what we least expected was to be told that the Censors won’t certify the film at all.

“When we sent the film for review, it got an ‘A’ certificate; when I demanded that the film be provided an ‘U/A’ certificate, I was asked to chop off many sequences to which I didn’t agree. I waited restlessly for 50 days when I sent the film for review; nobody knows what I underwent during those days awaiting the film to be censored.

“There is a tendency among people in general and movie-goers in particular to view films with ‘A’ certificate as high on glamour quotient or obscene sequences/dialogues. At times, films are given ‘A’ certificate also for the violent stunt sequences.

In this backdrop, I personally feel that it was time for the Censor Board to come clear on the issue and explain what makes up an ‘A’ certificate film,” concluded Ananda Krishnan.
