Pyramid Saimira Theatre Group has announced a scheme to help many small producers. It has decided to give financial assistance up to two crore rupees to 24 producers per year. As a first step, the company is giving advance to 12 producers on Pongal day. The amount, according to sources, will be given by none other than the Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi.
While it would obviously encourage small producers to come up with the small budget films, it could also pave way for more newcomers, as small budget would be more suitable for newcomers. It could also provide chances to many assistant directors to become directors.
While queried about the president of Distributors' Association Kalaipuli G. Sekaran's warning about the possible threat to film industry by the entry of corporate companies, Pyramid Natarajan said, 'We are not corporate company. We are co-operate company. Last year we released 21 films out of which 18 were small budget films. Some of them were struggling to get released. We have been in the business for quite long. We are a filmy company turned corporate. I think Mr. Sekaran might have referred those who enter the field without minimum knowledge about the industry.'
