Hrithik Roshan and Ashutosh Gowariker's historical drama 'Mohenjo Daro' hit the screens on this Friday amidst heavy expectations. Hrithik, who was last seen two years ago in Bang Bang (2014), teamed up with Ashutosh Gowariker and AR Rahman, the team that delivered the successful Jodha Akbar, to bring the ancient history of 'Mohenjo Daro' on silver screen.
Based on the life of Sarman and Chaani during the ancient Indus Valley Civilization, the film had huge expectations riding on it until the film's trailer released. But, the trailer had put off all those audiences' expectations with the historical inaccuracies and cliched setting. The makers however promised that the film will make audience awestruck.
After the release, the talk has been pretty weak right from the first screening. Hrithik's performance and camera work are getting appraisal but the direction and the patience-testing narration are key drawbacks. In the process of recreating ancient setting, Gowariker has made mockery of sorts of the facts. Half way through the film, it neither manages to create historical curiosity nor grips audience with the chaotic romance and drama. History has been butchered under the pretense of artistic liberty.
The much publicized stunt sequence with crocodile looks childish but the power-packed action stunts of Hrithik during the climax make up for this. Pooja Hegde, who is making her Bollywood debut, has invested two years for this film and she looked gorgeous throughout the movie. AR Rahman's music was good but the lyrics penned by Javed Akhtar were hard to understand and connect with.
If not for Hrithik and the grandeur, the film is a waste of talent, resources and time.
