Classical music has always a place in film songs. Thanks once again to K M Radhakrishna for showing us.
We saw his skills in melody and lilt in Anand. And now with Godavari, he has once again proved that he is the Raja of ragas.
Pairing again with Shekar Kammula, who understands the nuances of music and melody, Radhakrishna has strummed in a great score. He says Godavari, which is releasing today, has a better score than Anand. "For, it fits with the mood and moment of the movie."
Radhakrishna, hailing from Tamilnadu, started with a songless movie, Silence Please. P Sunil Kumar Reddy who directed that film later used him in his other award-winning works Hero and Megham.
But it was Anand that won Radhakrishna popular recognition. "It helped that Shekar had a deep understanding of classical music". After Anand, Radhakrishna worked in an out and out commercial venture, Kanchanamala Cable TV. He proved a point by giving fast numbers in the movie.
But classicism is his strength. And it shows.
