Jagadam Review

After giving a big hit like 'Arya', wherein Sukumar created a new trend in love scenes, he tried to show violence and action in a new way through 'Jagadam'. He chose young sensation Ram, who created a craze among the youth with his hit film 'Devadasu', as hero and it was proved a right choice. Sukumar woven a story with a theory of Sigmund Froyd ?? 'There is a beast mentality in every human being. It generally keeps suppressed but the situation brings it out on certain occasions.'

Sreenu (Ram) enjoys fights right from his childhood. He wants to be like Manikyam (Pradeep Rawat), who was a goonda, as everyone, including his teacher, is afraid of him. When all the boys wanted to become doctors, engineers, lawyers and other professionals, Sreenu wants to become a goonda.

Though he behaves like a ruffian, he comes to know that one should have the support of a politician or a big dada. With the help of Laddu (AS Ravikumar Choudary) an associate of Manikyam, Sreenu meets the latter and joins his gang. At this juncture, Sreenu falls in love with Subbulakshmi (Isha Sahani). As she pleads with Sreenu to help his friend's father, Sreenu agrees to settle a land deal. But the land was under illegal occupation of Manikyam's gang member Sudhakar (Devicharan).
As he promised to settle the deal, Sreenu opposes Manikyam. This makes Sreenu a hero, and he also starts doing settlements on his own. Once, Sreenu agrees to help an industrialist (Prithvi), whose quarry was occupied by Yadav (Satyaprakash), with the support of Manikyam. As things go out of control, Sreenu decides to kill Yadav.

However, he could not kill him but his younger brother, who also likes fighting scenes, takes the gun and kills Yadav. Sreenu appeals to the police commissioner (Prakash Raj) to mediate with Manikyam, but his men kill Sreenu's brother. This irks Sreenu who severely thrashes Manikyam, but spares him. When Manikyam attacks him, he kills him in self-defence. The film ends on a happy note, with Sreenu leaving all the dadagiri and leads a normal life.

Music by Devisri Prasad is excellent has become quite popular among the youth. Ram also showed a good ease in dance sequences and a couple of songs (Violence is a passion?¦ and Five Feet Eight Inches?¦.) were choreographed excellently. Ram's performance in climax is another highlight.
Ratnavelu's cinematography is another asset for the film. His photographic skills had elevated the mood of audiences in various scenes. Though looked glamorous, Isha failed to show the chivalrous expressions. Though the first half is just okay, the director lost grip on the film in the second half. The climax looked cinematic. Though the director and producer claimed that their film create a new trend in action films it nothing but unnecessary action scenes. The director failed to establish the love between the hero and heroine as well as the villainy by Pradeep Rawat.
