Ramesh Khanna was born in Coimbatore and third child to the family. Ramesh Khanna arrived in Chennai in the late 1980s to have a career as an actor. He became assistant to directors Pandiyarajan ('Aan Pavam'), Vikraman ('Poove Unakkaga', 'Suryavamsam', 'Unnai Ninaithu' and 'Priyamana Thozhi') and K.S.Ravikumar. It was K.S Ravikumar who advised him to act as a comedian.
Khanna has acted in notable roles in films such as Unnai Ninaithu, Friends, Padayappa, Avvai Shanmughi and Villain. He has also appeared in supporting roles in films such as Thulluvatho Illamai.
Khanna has two children and lives near Kodambakkam in Chennai. His first son is Jashwanth Kannan has completed his B.Tech Degree and currently employed in Wipro Technologies Pvt.Ltd.
