Sundar C. is a Tamil film director and actor. He has directed 25 films in Kollywood. His acting debut came in 2006 with the film Thalai Nagaram. Initially he worked as an assistant director to Manivannan and he was introduced as a director in the family drama Murai Maman.
His most notable films include Ullathai Allitha, Unakkaga Ellam Unakkaga, Arunachalam, Kannan Varuvaan and Anbe Sivam. Other notable films include Mettukudi, Winner, Naam Iruvar Nammaku Iruvar, London and his most recent, Kalakalappu.
Sundar C. made his directorial debut through Murai Maman in 1995 and his second film was Murai Mapillai, which was also the debut film of Arun Vijay. He directed big stars Rajinikanth in Arunachalam and Kamal in Anbe Sivam. He has also worked with Karthik, Prashanth, Arjun, Sarathkumar, and Ajith.
He gave up film directing and started his acting career in the 2006 movie Thalai Nagaram. The film opened to a lukewarm response but later turned out to be a surprise success at the box office. In 2007, he appeared in Veerappu, which turned out to be a sleeper hit too.
In 2008 he starred in the hugely successful Sandai, directed by Shakti Chidambaram. His streak of successes ended with the box office flops Aayudham Seivom, Perumal and Thee. Average grossing Aiyantham Padai was followed in 2010 by two box-office disasters, Guru Sishyan and Vaadaa. Nagaram also bombed, in spite of garnering highly positive reviews for its good story, Vadivelu's comedy and Anuya's glamour. He recently finished work on Murattu kaalai, which is remake of a 1980 film of same name.
