The film Kabootar premiered at the 10th Osians-Cinefan Festival of Asian and Arab Cinema and was much appreciated by the audience.

Tragic endings are no longer an impediment for mature Indian audiences if the filmmaker is able to justify the reason for this, said well known filmmaker Anubhav Sinha, who is the producer of the film.

Addressing a press meet about his production 'Kabootar - udega to udaega' directed by debutante Maqbool Khan, he said 'tragedy is no longer an emotional impediment' as Indian audiences are now more mature than they were two or three decades earlier. Asked about the risk involved in making a film of this kind, he said with conviction that any film carries some risk, even if it has big stars or works on accepted formulae.

He also saw no problems with censorship and said the chances were that the film would get released with an 'Adult' certificate in view of its content. But he said the audience reaction which came during the screening of the film at the 10th Osian's-Cinefan Festival of Asian and Arab Cinema was itself a great sign and the question-answer session after the screening was very positive.

Maqbool said the film was based on incidents from real life and from events that had unfolded in his own life. Starting his career as an assistant to Anubhav, he has made music videos and series for television but this is his first feature.

He did not feel that having completely new faces would pose any problems as 'I wanted these faces for my characters'. He said a small workshop had been held with the young actors before the shooting. The rapport that the actors built amongst themselves also helped them.

He felt that a platform like this festival was a good platform for films of this kind as they got the right kind of audiences. The press meet was also attended by actors Vishal Thakkar, Ankur Khanna, Harsh Lunia and Nikhil Yadav.
