"Deeply shocked" and "distressed" over the gangrape of a woman photojournalist in Mumbai, megastar Amitabh Bachchan said the pride in the name of Mumbai has taken a beating. He said it needs to be rectified soon.

"We have all been very distressed and extremely shocked at this most heinous kind of crime - the gangrape that has happened in Mumbai. This a huge tragedy and I must say this that the name of the city (Mumbai) has taken a beating and we need to rectify that," Big B said here during the launch of a "Kaun Banega Crorepati" 'Hot Seat Aapke Shehar' van.

A woman photojournalist was raped by five men in the abandoned Shakti Mills compound near Mahalaxmi railway station where she was on an assignment along with a male colleague here Thursday.

The police has so far caught two of the culprits.

"I hope the authorities will take the immediate steps and catch the culprits and put them through a very rigorous investigation, take them to the law and make sure that the law acts as soon as possible," added the 70-year-old.

Lamenting how the city, considered safe for women, has witnessed such a crime, Amitabh added: "We have always had great pride in this city... in the city that has been devoid of any kind of such incidents.

"Women have always been looked upon with grace and a lot of dignity and they have always felt very safe, irrespective of where they go or what they travelled in."
