Onam season is considered to be one of the best for Malayalam films and most of the big actors of the film industry try to release a film of their own, during the season. Actors like Mammootty and Mohanlal have made it a point to release their films during the Onam season. But, this time, much to the disappointment of Mammootty fans, no film of the actor would be in the theatres during the Onam season.
Similarly, in the year 2011, Mammootty didn't have any release during the Onam season. Earlier, Mammootty's Thoppil Joppan was expected to hit the theatres during the Onam season. Later, the makers of the film shifted the release date to the month of October. Mammootty's previous release was White, which didn't do well at the box-office. Meanwhile, as many as 4 Malayalam films are gearing up to hit the theatres during Onam season. Prithviraj starrer Oozham would be the first one to hit the theatres, which is set to release on September 8, 2016.
Mohanlal-Priyadarshan team's Oppam would also hit the theatres during the Onam season. The film is expected to release on September 9. Dileep's Welcome To Central Jail and Kunchacko Boban's Kochavva Paulo Ayyappa Coelho are also slated to be Onam releases. Apart from the above, Mohanlal and Jr. Ntr starrer Janatha Garage would also hit the theatres during the Onam season.
