Did '36 Vayadhinile' with fire inside me: Jyotika

Actress Jyotika, who is overwhelmed with the positive response to her comeback film "36 Vayadhinile", says she did it with the belief that it will cement the position of women in their daily lives, and heroines in a male-dominated industry. “I’m overwhelmed with the love and respect towards ‘36 Vayadhinile’. I did the film with a fire inside me, believing that women should be respected for being homemakers as they juggle between many roles in day-to-day life, thereby losing the drive to chase their own dreams,” Jyotika said in a statement. In the movie, Jyotika plays a character 'too old' to have her own dreams and to pursue them. “I also did the film because I felt it will give heroines a better standing in this male-dominated industry and it will make women understand that our identity lies in our self-respect, confidence and achievements, and not just in marital status,” she said. Directed by Rosshan Andrews, the film is the remake of Malayalam hit “How Old Are You”, which reintroduced actress Manju Warrier after several years. “36 Vayadhinile”, which is running to packed houses, is produced by Jyotika’s actor-husband Suriya under him home banner 2D Entertainment.

Jyotika's 36 Vayadhinile rakes in over Rs.8 crore

Making a comeback after eight long years, actress Jyotika's latest Tamil release "36 Vayadhinile", which is about a woman and her pursuit of dreams, has raked in over Rs.8 crore in the six days since its release in Tamil Nadu. "The film opened to highly positive word-of-mouth. Although targeted at women, even men and family audiences have lapped up the film. It has minted Rs.8 crore and above in six days. At this rate, the film may collect over Rs.20 crore in another week in the cinemas," trade analyst Trinath told. According to a statement released by the film's makers, the movie has been shifted to bigger screens across select cinema screens in multiplexes. Buoyed with the positive response to her film, Jyotika recently said: "I'm overwhelmed with the love and respect towards '36 Vayadhinile'. I did the film with a fire inside me believing that women should be respected for being homemakers as they juggle between many roles in day-to-day life, thereby losing the drive to chase their own dreams." She also did the film because "I felt it will give heroines a better standing in this male-dominated industry and make women understand that our identity lie in our self-respect, confidence and achievements, and not just in marital status". Directed by Rosshan Andrews, the film is produced by Jyotika's actor-husband Suriya under his home banner 2D Entertainment. Suriya has already bought the remake rights of the movie in all India languages. And according to an insider, talks are on with a leading Telugu star to start work on the Telugu version.

'How Old Are You' remake titled '36 Vayadhinile'

The highly anticipated Tamil remake of last year's Malayalam hit "How Old Are You" has been titled "36 Vayadhinile". The film marks actress Jyothika in a comeback role after seven years. "The film's story revolves around a middle-aged woman. Hence, the makers have felt '36 Vayadhinile' would be the apt title. Ironically, Jyothika is 36-year old," a source from the film's unit told. Helmed by Roshan Andrews, who had directed the original, the film is produced by actor Suriya under his home banner 2D Entertainment. Suriya was one among the few who chose the title. "Suriya sir along with the director zeroed in on the title. They spent lot of time contemplating on the title," the source said. The film, which is slated for release in April, also features Rahman, Abhirami and Sanjay Bharati in important roles. Suriya has already bought the remake rights of the film in other Indian languages as well.

36 takes for a lip-lock scene in 'Trisha Illana Nayanthara'

It took 36 takes for actor-composer G.V. Prakash Kumar and co-star Manisha Yadav to film a lip-lock scene from the upcoming Tamil romantic-comedy "Trisha Illana Nayanthara". "Prakash was initially hesitant about the lip-lock scene. He wasn't comfortable with the idea. However, Manisha didn't have any qualms about it and instantly gave her a nod when she was narrated the scene. It took Prakash some motivation, but he eventually gave in," a source from the film's unit told. It took 36 takes because the scene was shot from different angles. "The director wanted to capture the scene from the most appropriate angle in order to not make it look dirty. Hence, it took so many takes to lock the shot," the source said. Directed by debutant Adhik Ravichandran, the film features Anandhi as one of the leading ladies, while veteran actor Simran Bagga has essayed a cameo. Prakash's other films as actor includes "Ketta Payada Indha Karthi" and "Basha Engira Anthony". He has also signed a yet-untitled film with "Darling" director Sam Anton, and this project will be produced by Studio Green.

36 China Town breaks the jinx for Shahid-Kareena

This was bound to happen sooner than later! Thankfully in case of Shahid Kapoor and Kareena Kapoor, this has happened sooner and just at the right time. Good opening of '36 China Town' and continued patronage for the rest of the week has ensured that the film should turn out to be a reasonable success at the least. And none but Shahid and Kareena would be most pleased about that since there last film together, 'Fida', didn't exactly set the box office on fire. One of the major reasons for the film's downfall was said to be the film's plot itself that projected Kareena as a vamp who didn't really care about the character played by Shahid. The fans naturally felt cheated due to the absence of a romantic onscreen liaison between the two and soon the word spread around the town that Shahid and Kareena were not the typical 'hero' and 'heroine' in the film. Now with '36 China Town', the duo got ample opportunity to play a 'conventional' hero and heroine in the film. So audience had their hands [and eyes full] when they saw the duo singing and dancing to peppy numbers, getting into sweet'n'little arguments, cracking jokes and genuinely enjoying themselves in the comic popcorn thriller! With the movie's success, the most relieved man should be Boney Kapoor who may now be looking at releasing his long delayed 'Milenge Milenge' directed by Satish Kaushik. The film has been ready for quite some time but owing to the failure of 'Fida', Boney Kapoor went slow on 'Milenge Milenge' and instead concentrated on 'No Entry'. With 2005's biggest success behind him and '36 China Town' looking good, 'Milenge Milenge' is another film that should be yet another good reason for Shahid-Kareena fans to catch the flick. Meanwhile one film starring the real life couple is fast gearing up for the release. In about a month's time from now comes Priyadarshan directed 'Chup Chup Ke' that is being promoted as a romantic comedy. Releasing on June 9, the film is also noticeable for the fact that Kareena plays a mute girl in the film while a situation provokes Shahid to act as a mute and a deaf guy. Supposed to be filmed in true Priyadarshan style, the film has now become further hot due to '36 China Town' clicking at the box office. Additional bonus comes in the form of Himesh Reshammiya's music that is eagerly awaited at the stands!
