David Dhawan's assistant director makes his directorial debut

In last couple of years, there have been numerous instances of assistant directors turning into full fledged directors and making a mark for themselves in Bollywood. The feat is bound to be repeated again with the release of 'Nehle Pe Dehla' starring Sanjay Dutt and Saif Ali Khan in the lead. The director? Ajay Chandok. In a career spanning around a couple of decades, Chandok has been mainly an assistant director to David Dhawan for a dozen odd films. The most notable of them are 'Aankhen', 'Coolie No.1', 'Deewana Mastana', 'Base Miyan Chote Miyan', 'Haseena Maan Jaayegi', 'Jodi No.1' and 'Ek Aur Ek Gyarah' to name a few. With 'Nehle Pe Dehla', Chandok makes his belated debut as the film has been in the making for around 3 years now. Also there have been talks about the title of the film being changed to 'Jimmy Aur Johny' though confirmation is still awaited for the same. In fact Chandok has no qualms in admitting that he comes from the David Dhawan school of filmmaking. He is fine to make films that may leave the critics hungry but would be no-brainers of the kind that would be lapped up the 'junta'. Chandok also has two more films 'Kisse Pyaar Karoon' and 'Team - The Force' in hand which have been completed and are now waiting to hit the marquee. While 'Kisse Pyaar Karoon' stars Arshad Warsi, Aashish Chaudhary, Yash Tonk, Udita Goswami and Aarti Chhabria in the lead, 'Team - The Force' is an actioner that has Sohail Khan, Amrita Arora, Aarti Chhabria and Yash Tonk as its major attractions.

Harley-Davidson posts Q3 profits, but sales drop

Harley-Davidson Inc Tuesday said its third-quarter profits more than doubled, led by the improved performance of its financial services unit, but reported a drop in worldwide sales. The largest US motorcycle maker said its net income climbed to $88.8 million from $26.5 million a year earlier. While revenue dropped 1.9 percent to $1.09 billion, retail sales fell 7.7 percent worldwide – 9.4 percent in the US and 3.6 percent in international markets compared to the year-ago period. “Despite the continued challenges in the economy, we are making solid, steady progress at transforming our business,” said CEO Keith Wandell. “The results we are seeing stem directly from the actions we are taking to restructure the business.” The company now expects to ship 207,000 to 212,000 motorcycles to dealers in 2010, a decrease of approximately 5-7 per cent from 2009.

Harley Davidson offers members of military free riding academy training

Harley-Davidson, long a big supporter of U.S. veterans, announced that it is extending free training at its riding academy through next year for members of the military. The program is now available to active-duty, retired, reservists and veterans. The free training was first offered earlier this year prior to Armed Forces Day aboard the USS Yorktown aircraft carrier in Charleston, S.C. “Thousands of members of the military have learned to ride through the program so far,” Christian Walters, Harley Davidson’s managing director and an Army Special Operations Aviation officer, said in a statement this month. “We're proud to extend this opportunity in 2016 so even more military personnel can enjoy the very freedom they protect." Never ridden before? No problem. As the company says “Great riders aren’t born. They’re made.” The New Rider Course is designed to get newbies comfortable on a bike and ensure they have got the skills to get the license and start riding. The course features Harley-Davidson certified coaches who will provide expert guidance. There are two primary components: classroom and on the range. The classroom section focus on rider safety skills basics and getting familiar with the motorcycle you will be riding. At the practice range, skills like braking, turning, controlling skids and tackling obstacles are learned and practiced. Completing the course in some states means you don’t have to take the riding portion of the motorcycle license test. With some insurance, it can also mean a discount. All members of the military who are stateside can take advantage of the offer by visiting a local Harley-Davidson dealer or going to h-d.com/AmericanHeroes. If a riding academy is not available in your particular area, then you can attend another certified motorcycle safety program and Harley-Davidson will reimburse you. Deployed outside the US? Not a problem. If you’re currently abroad, then submit the form by December 31, 2016. The company will send you a voucher for free motorcycle safety training that can be used when you return home. It will be good through 2017. The free training is part of the company’s wide ranging support for veterans. To date, Harley-Davidson has donated more than $1 million to support those who serve through fundraising initiatives, the Harley-Davidson Foundation and the Operation Personal Freedom MotorClothes collection. Ballet dancer turned defense specialist Allison Barrie has traveled around the world covering the military, terrorism, weapons advancements and life on the front line.
