Ram Gopal Varma, who has worked in Tamil movies like Thiruda Thiruda and Jithan, is currently working on his upcoming film Veerappan, a biopic of the gangster. It is for this movie he had researched on Veerappan and in the process, acquired knowledge about Veerappan's plans of kidnapping Rajinikanth, RGV has claimed. What more, the Ratha Sarithiram director has also claimed that Veerappan was under the impression that he was more popular than Rajinikanth. "Veerappan used to think he is more famous than Rajnikanth and at one point he demanded a film to be made on him as a part of his Ransom," RGV wrote on his official social media page. He further went on to state, "Veerappan's demand was to get a much bigger film made on him than Shekar Kapur's 'Bandit queen' because he was much bigger than Phoolan Devi." In an interview to a leading daily, Mr. Varma has said his film on Veerappan would expose the "drama" behind the plot that was devised to kill Veerappan. "From all the truth I gathered, Veerappan's story was unbelievable. But what is even more unbelievable is the drama which went behind the plan to kill him," he has said. RGV has gathered information based on his interviews with people who were close to the infamous smuggler and inputs from mediators and police officials involved in the hunt down. It is to be noted that Veerappan had kidnapped Kannada superstar Dr. Rajkumar, which led to public outcry and violence in the state of Karnataka. Veerapan back on track in B-Town
Some years back when a film called 'Jungle' starring Fardeen Khan as the hero was announced from the Ram Gopal Varma's production company, everyone thought it to be a film inspired from the life of the notorious forest bandit Veerapan. The maverick director's intentions on making a film on the life of the dreaded forest robber was known in the Bollywood circles even before Fardeen Khan's movie got released. The title 'Jungle' mislead people into believing that this is the Ram Gopal Varma's long talked about film on Veerapan. There was no dearth of rumours of Ram Gopal Varma going to make a movie on the most wanted bandit in India even in the subsequent years. The buzz has started again after remaining silent for some time. The latest news is that Mr.Varma is considering taking up the Veerapan project again and the movie will based on his life till he was killed by the special task force in 2004 in an encounter. Considering Veerapan's life filled with encounters and adventures, he is certainly someone who would be loved to be seen by film lovers as a character in the big screen. And who will be better to direct the life story of a self proclaimed king of Jungles than Ram Gopal Varma when we consider the expertise, talent and technique of this director in presenting movies based on realities.
RGV's project on Veerapan starts rolling
His life story has enough of drama, action, and is filled with adventures, innumerable incidents of his famed survival instincts, high profile kidnappings and the aura of fear about himself that he was able to instill in the minds of the people is a fertile ground for a film maker to get inspired. Even when the notorious person was alive, Ram Gopal Varma's wish to make a film on his life has been know. When Ram Gopal Varma's film 'Jungle' was released a couple of years ago, everyone thought that it is a film about Veerapan. There started the saga of a film about Veerapan and still it has not become a reality. After a long period of time, with the success of 'Sarkar Raj' Ram Gopal Varma has reinstated his position in Bollywood and now is the right time to think again about his long cherished wish of making the film on Veerapan. The forest brigand's wife Muthulakshmi coming over to Mumbai for a discussion on the story line of the film is a clear indicator that the film can be expected to roll soon and this time Ramu is really serious in working out the project. May be the success of 'Sarkar Raj' has brought in a much needed confidence booster for the film maker and he wants to follow it up with a story of the true life story of a different kind of gangster. Keeping with this film maker's record in making films that satisfies people who are looking out for movies with a realistic touch as well as weaving interesting commercial elements in a particular way in which it will not hamper with the total feel of the film, film lovers will not argue that Ram Gopal Varma is the right person for making a memorable film on Veerapan. According to the reports the film maker will co produce the film along with Ekta Kapoor and the writer of 'Sarkar Raj' Prashant Pandey will be the director. The film will be showing the circumstances that the young man in a village to take up the arms and finally becoming the most dreaded uncrowned king of the forests and how he became so successful in fooling the army, the police and the special security forces each time they were deployed to catch him.
Veerappan's wife to play herself?
As reported a couple of days ago, Ram Gopal Varma is keen on making a film on Veerappan, the notorious sandalwood smuggler who successfully evaded arrest for decades. The life and times of the forest brigand could very easily make an absorbing tale on the silver screen. Brutal attacks on police personnel and hoodwinking two state governments Tamilnadu and Karnataka using the dense forests of the Sathyamangalam forests as cover caught national attention for many years. Muthulakshmi, wife of the slain bandit had recently been to Mumbai for discussions with RGV's team. Terming the filmmaker as 'very professional and trustworthy' Muthulakshmi said, she would be the film's consultant throughout the entire production process. Says Muthulakshmi, "I have been offered to act as myself in the film. I am considering this offer and might act if there are no marriage scenes in the film'. She doesn't want some actor who plays Veerappan to tie the knot even though it is just for a film. With RGV's penchant in making gangster movies, the film on the life and times of Veerappan could get mighty engrossing. However the movie will be directed by Prashant Pandey (writer for Sarkar Raj) and will be produced by RGV and Ekta Kapoor.
