Ajay Devgn starrer-"Drishyam" saw "super growth in business" on the second day of its release, taking its total to Rs.17.45 crore, says an expert. Also starring Tabu and Shriya Saran, the crime thriller that was released on Friday, has received "terrific" word of mouth. Total: Rs.17.45 crore," trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted about the Nishikant Kamat directorial on Sunday. While the movie's business is still picking up, Adarsh tagged Salman Khan-starrer "Bajrangi Bhaijaan" an "all time blockbuster". #BajrangiBhaijaan (week three) Friday Rs.4.11 crore. 'Drishyam' mints Rs.30.03 crore in opening weekend
Filmmaker Nishikant Kamat's thriller drama film "Drishyam", starring Ajay Devgn, Tabu and Shriya Saran in pivotal roles, managed an opening weekend collection of Rs 30.03 crore. The film is running successfully on positive word of mouth publicity at the box office, read a statement from the production banner. “Drishyam”, which is an official remake of the Malayalam film of the same name, collected Rs.8.05 crore on its opening day. The film witnessed good growth on Saturday and Sunday when it managed to rake in Rs.9.40 crore and Rs.12.13 crore respectively. Made on a “medium budget” according to the director, the story of “Dhrishyam”, which released on July 31, revolves around a local cable operator Vijay Salgaonkar (Ajay), whose life revolves around cinema and his family; wife Nandini (Shriya) and daughters Anju and Anu. Tabu is playing the role of IG Meera Deshmukh in the film.

'Drishyam' mints Rs 46.28 crore in opening week
Filmmaker Nishikant Kamat's thriller drama "Drishyam", starring Ajay Devgn, Tabu and Shriya Saran, has minted Rs.46.28 crore in its first week. Released on July 31, “Drishyam”, the official remake of the eponymous Malayalam film, earned an opening weekend collection of Rs.30.03 crore nett (Friday - Rs.8.5 crore, Saturday - Rs.9.40 crore and Sunday - Rs.12.13 crore). It further garnered a steady inflow of collection and footfalls, recording Rs.4.05 crore (Monday), Rs.4.50 crore (Tuesday), Rs.4.10 crore (Wednesday) and Rs.3.60 crore (Thursday), totalling Rs.46.28 crore in seven days, read a statement from the production banner. The story of “Drishyam” revolves around cable TV operator Vijay Salgaonkar (Ajay), whose life revolves around cinema and his family; wife Nandini (Shriya) and daughters Anju and Anu. Tabu plays the role of police IG Meera Deshmukh in the film.
Ajay Devgn playing a cable operator in 'Drishyam'
Actor Ajay Devgn, who is one of the most versatile actors in the showbiz, will be seen playing a cable operator in the much-awaited film "Drishyam". A source close to the development revealed: "Ajay plays Vijay Salgaonkar, a fourth grade dropout who is a movie buff and therefore, a cable operator by profession. He is a common man who leads a happy life with his wife and two daughters in a quiet township of Goa. He will be seen eassaying an intense character in the film." Directed by Nishikant Kamat "Drishyam" also features Tabu, Shriya Saran, and Rajat Kapoor among others. The film is slated for a July 31 release and the trailer would be out on Thursday.
Vishal Bhardwaj to compose music for Drishyam
After donning several hats in multiple award-winning film 'Haider' as composer, director, producer and writer, Vishal Bhardwaj is switching to his first passion of music direction in Ajay Devgan-Tabu-starrer 'Drishyam'. The film is an emotional thriller, but Vishal and legendary writer Gulzar wanted to create an item number for the film. Director Nishikant Kamat, however, did not allow it. At a media interaction for the film where his song 'Carbon Copy' was screened, Vishal said: "I and Gulzar sahab were keen on making an item number kind of song for this film. But Nishi (Kamat) came and disappointed us by saying that he wanted a song along the lines of 'Ae Zindagi Gale Laga Le'. "It happens rarely that directors approach us with songs of this kind of aesthetics," he said. About producer Kumar Mangat, Vishal said: "I had a great association with Kumarji (Mangat) for songs like 'Naina Thag Lenge' for 'Omkara'. "But he (Mangat) doesn't free you till you give him a brilliant song. So I try to make a beautiful song just to get rid of him," he said. On reuniting with Ajay after 'Omkara', Vishal said: "I really enjoyed working on this film. I don't blink my eyelids if I get the opportunity to work with Ajay and Kumarji since the most amazing experience of my life has been in Omkara. I really miss working with Ajay and Kumarji." 'Drishyam', along with Ajay, also stars Tabu and Shriya Saran, produced by Viacom 18 and Kumar Mangat, is releasing on July 31.
