Fanaa - Last major musical score of Jatin Lalit

Fanaa, upcoming flick from the house of YRF, is special not just because of great production values and the Aamir Khan-Kajol combo. It is also special as it has some of the last songs composed by the composer duo of Jatin Lalit who have now split. Jatin Lalit, who gave some great music for YRF in films like DDLJ, Mohabbatein and Hum Tum, would be taking a bow as a duo once their album 'Fanaa' hits the stand. They do have a couple of small pending releases that may happen later but for all their die hard fans, 'Fanaa' in all probability would be their last and final call. Truly an end of a great era that witnessed dozens of melodious 'n' priceless gems. Here is looking forward to 'Fanaa'!

'Fanaa' music out in stores

Music of the most keenly awaited album of the season, Fanaa, is out on stores. As expected, the album is selling like hot cakes from the stands due to an all around unprecedented demand. In spite of the fact that so far just one line [Subhan Allah] has been heard from the entire album, people are just flocking the music stores to check out the album due to multiple reasons. First and foremost the Yash Raj Films tagline by itself spells quality. Secondly the film stars Aamir Khan and Kajol and has a romantic theme. And last, but most importantly, Jatin Lalit as the composers who have earlier given huge hits for YRF in the form of DDLJ and 'Hum Tum'! The album has seven songs in total that includes an instrumental and a remix. Watch out for our music review of the album coming soon!

Fanaa's multiplex release - the plot thickens

With just 24 more hours to go for the release of 'Fanaa', there is still uncertainty around an agreement between Yash Raj Films and the multiplex association. On digging a little deeper into the actual state of the issue, it turns out that three of the biggest multiplex chains of India would continue to boycott the release of 'Fanaa' at their screens if Yash Raj Films stick to their demand of better share from the ticket sales. Our source from one of the multiplexes, who wished to be unnamed explains, "For every movie that releases, a distributor agrees on a certain percentage cut. For every week there is a rate that depends based on the film's banner, starcast and hype. For each of the weeks there is a rate and everything is agreed upon at the distribution stage itself." So what is so unique about 'Fanaa'? "See, traditionally for a Yash Raj film, the share is never less than 45-50%. In fact why just a YRF, even for other big banner films coming from top production houses, the share is usually in the same range. While for some movies, this percentage falls down from second week onwards, for certain biggies it remains the same for 2 or even 3 weeks at stretch. Now in case of 'Fanaa', a bigger share is being demanded and that too at the same level for 3 weeks in a row. This has resulted in a disagreement with the multiplexes and hence the decision to boycott the film. If there is no consensus reached, it would be indeed disappointing for both the parties as everyone knows that collections for a movie in the league of 'Fanaa' are normally more than 50% from multiplexes alone." But is there any hope or would a 'multiplex-addicted' viewer be forced to make a comeback? "Kuch bhi ho sakta hai (anything is possible)", he says, "Nothing is turned down as there is still hope due to a few more hours to go before the film's release!" Won't it hamper the film's show timings if a decision is taken at the last minute and the prints start getting dispatched? "That shouldn't be a problem as normally too a YRF print only comes on a Friday morning. Even if a decision is taken by late Thursday evening, the prints could still be flown over and the movie could be screened at the right time." So here is hoping that the audience gets to see what they wanted at the choice of their screens. As always, we will keep you updated about the latest information!

'Fanaa' no more in Gujarat

Yash Raj Films have requested the management of Amber theatre in Jaamnagar to pull off 'Fanaa' after a young man Pravin Joshi made a self immolation bid in the theatre's toilet yesterday. Apparently he had been protesting against Aamir Khan's views on the Narmada issue, though it defies reason as to why he made the attempt after watching the film. Ambar was the only theatre showing 'Fanaa' in Gujarat and after the request by Yashraj Films, theatre owner Vimal Madam, decided to pull out the film which had been running to houseful shows. In another related incident, four people were arrested for 'illegally' showing 'Fanaa' in a club in Rajkot. It has been reported that hundreds of people had been congregating to watch the film and it was due to the huge numbers that police got the hint. Kunal Kohli's blockbuster seems to be arousing extreme reactions from people in Gujarat. There's no dearth of people who wish to see the film while there are still others who can go to any length to oppose it.

Will 'Fanaa' go to the 'No Entry' way?

What's common between 'Fanaa' and 'No Entry'? Hardly anything but if one looks at the controversy preceding the film's release status, the common factor is very much visible. While the controversy surrounding the release of 'Fanaa' has finally come to an end, its difficult times for the exhibitioners to create awareness about the final status and schedule of the film's shows. The same happened in case of 'No Entry' when Boney Kapoor had to do a lot of running to ensure a smooth release of his film with certain deals still remaining to be settled with financiers. This resulted in prints not reaching certain theatres in time on the first day that spelt loss of revenue. Also, public at some places was not aware about the film's release. Fortunately the film picked up in a BIG way from Saturday and rest they say is history! In case of 'Fanaa' though there should not be much issue about the delay in prints reach as far as dispatching of prints to respective theatres is concerned. YRF is known for sending the prints only on a Friday morning and as per industry observers, they won't have taken a laidback attitude to wait for the decision before making their prints move. With reports having started coming in all media forums about the film's actual release on Friday, it should help it save a lot of trouble!

Releases pile up before Fanaa's arrival

It always happens whenever a biggie is about to hit the screens! Numerous movies try to arrive as soon as possible before a biggie takes over majority of theatres, be it in single screen or multiplexes. The same is happening in the case of 'Fanaa' that arrives on May 26th. So far, it is the sole release of the week and no wonder there are as many as 4 films vying for screen space a week before 'Fanaa' arrives. Ankahee, Aatma and Sacred Evil - A True Story along with Aparichit-The Stranger (that may get pushed to June) are the four films in question that have so far been slated for a May 19th release. In fact numerous biggies have kept a distance from 'Fanaa' for at least 2 weeks as both 'Chup Chup Ke' and 'Phir Hera Pheri' arrive only on June 9th while 'Krrish' comes on June 23rd. This gives 'Fanaa' more or less an open month with only 2 movies for competition in the entire month of June, hence paving its way for being a money spinner this summer.
