'Vedalam' Tamil cinema's biggest opener: Trade analyst

Superstar Ajith Kumar's latest Tamil outing "Vedalam", which raked in Rs. 15.3 crore on release day in Tamil Nadu, has emerged as the biggest box office opener in the language since last year's blockbuster "Kaththi", according to a trade analyst. "With Rs. 15.3 crore on the day of its release in Tamil Nadu, 'Vedalam' has become the biggest grosser in Tamil filmdom, surpassing the previous record of Vijay-starrer 'Kaththi', which had grossed Rs. 14.3 crore on the first day," trade analyst Trinath told. Directed by Siva, "Vedalam", also starring Shruti Haasan, is the story of a don who helps a girl avenge the death of her parents. Despite receiving mixed reviews from critics and fans alike, the film has managed to impress Ajith's large fan base. It's critical that "Vedalam" continues its dream run, says Trinath. "With a phenomenal opening, the film should continue running to packed houses for at least a week for it to enter the profit zone, especially for the distributors. Rains in Tamil Nadu had played spoilsport this week but it hasn't affected the film majorly," he said.

Vedalam Third Day Box Office Collections: Thala Ajith Catches The Attention Of National Media!

Having collected more than 25 Crore rupees just from the first two days since its release, the movie has reportedly minted around 7.5 Crores (approx) on its third day (Thursday) across the state. Taking its overall box office tally to more than 32.5 Crores from Tamil Nadu alone, Vedalam has become the talk of the town, not just in Tamil Nadu but in the entire country as many National newspapers and TV channels confirmed that Vedalam created a box office record. In fact, many of them went on to call Ajith 'the next superstar of Tamil cinema' for his outstanding track record of providing blockbuster movies in recent times. When it comes to his recently released flick, many weekend shows have already been booked in Chennai and other areas. The film is expected to run to packed houses throughout the weekend, which might double its collections by the end of this week. Stay tuned for more updates on Vedalam and its box office collections.

Vedalam is at No.3 after I and Puli Vedalam is at No.3 after I and Puli

We have an exclusive report on Vedalam's performance in the UK after its 6 day opening weekend. The film has grossed £135,584 (1.35 cr) at the end of its first 6 days. Ajay, a trusted UK box office analyst, shares more insights on this opening performance, "This is Ajith's highest ever opening, his previous best was Arrambam with £135,223 approx. This is 2015's 3rd highest for Tamil, after I : £258,764 (5 days) and Puli : £143,505 (4 days). The festive release, record release locations (58) and mass commercial / family touch were factors which worked in Vedalam's factor. Looking at the figures from this week, we can definitely come to the conclusion that Ajith's UK market is back on the rise slowly. Not only did he manage to overtake his previous best opening weekend collections, but he also managed to do that with supposedly strong competition coming from Thoongavanam. In the UK, the family market for Ajith has always been quite low but with Vedalam, it was the first time I genuinely saw many pleased and happy families who enjoyed watching this with their children."

Ajith Vedalam Vijay Bairavaa title given by Raghava Lawrence

The multi-talented Raghava Lawrence is also a well known philanthropist who never shies away from parting huge amounts of money for the needy. As far as the industry is concerned, he is a friend of all the bigwigs, including Rajini, Vijay, Ajith and others. That Raghava puts friendship above anything else has been proven twice within a year. When the team of ‘Thala 56’ was hunting for a proper title and decided on ‘Vedalam’ they found that it was already registered by the ‘Kanchana’ man in the chamber, who had no hesitation in parting with the title for Ajith. Similarly, when Bharathan zeroed in on ‘Bairavaa’ it was already registered by Raghava Lawrence for his next, but he immediately gave it to his dear friend Ilayathalapathy Vijay. Good to know that such personalities exist in an industry known for envy among contemporaries.
